Maybe I'm a little biased but I got my 04 (5AT) TL in July Certified. Bought Acura warranty on the spot. Ran me 1k to cover me for 2.5 more years or until 100k miles. Long story short, I had my Divers window go bananas on me 2 weeks after I got it. Since then I've had to replace nearly half the lights in the dash, get the power seat module replaced and I'm picking mine up from the shop today after getting my motor mounts replaced. Thought I felt a slight jerk between 2nd and 3rd a few times myself. Nothing constant though. All covered under warranty. That $1000 was used a long time ago. You never know what can happen. More than likely it will be something small or a series of small somethings that can go wrong if anything. You just gotta weigh the price of the warranty versus the likelihood of something happening. My Idea is that I never want my car to have a prob but if I do and at least break even, it was well worth it.

yea well the plan i was looking at only seems to cover 2200 for trans. so if i took it to acura and they wanted like $4000 for the job id be stuck with paying $1800!
heres what the limitations are:

Coverage Limits -
You are eligible to make your first claim ninety (90) days and 1,000 miles after the start date. The maximum limit of liability per loss shall be equal to the actual cash value (ACV) of the vehicle at the time of repair. The maximum limit of liability per covered vehicle is $6000. The limit of liability per covered component is as follows: $3,300 in engine claims; $2,200 in transmission claims; $1,500 in differential claims; and $300 in emergency roadside assistance claims.

heres the link for more info:
http://www.carwarranty.com/whats_covered.asp

a 5 yr costs about $1500 and every less year is $100 off that

im not sure if its a good deal or not.

is it?

Sounds to me like decent coverage. You would be covered for the big stuff but what about the small stuff. It is my understanding that most trans problems were for the later 2G models and very little carried over to the start of the 04/3G models. I'd double check to see it you were covered for things like the I mentioned above. You'll prob find that most 3G owners that have probs have just minor stuff, but the price adds up. If the warranty company will cover you on everything the manufacturer will, then $1500 over 5 years is great. You may want to get an inspection of your vehicle to make sure everything is in tip top shape. Shop around on warranties and check reviews, lots of reviews before you make a decision.

3G 04 05 TL have trans issues. but the coverage only covers up to 2200 so im not sure if this makes sense.
itd be 1400 for warr plus 1800 after if i want it done at acura. at that point i might as well trade it in for a acura certified- no?

Please be very careful buying a warranty online. There are a lot of scammers out there. We see them in our shop all the time, with the service advisor calling some 1-800 number for hours on end trying to get authorization to fix the vehicle. When they do finally get someone on the phone, a lot of times the claim is denied due to "pre-existing condition".

Your best bet might be to go to an Acura dealer and buy a genuine Acura warranty.

Not trying to push you one direction or the other, just please be cautious spending your hard earned money.

yea well yesterday i saw the KBB value and it was 11500 and today its 9000!!
so it kinda dropped alot in one day. good luck to anyone trading it in.
ill be holding ontot this tl and probably just fixing anything myself. unless you pay out the ass at the dealer you wont be completely covered. at that point buying a warr that doesnt cover it all is most likely a waste
