ACURA TL transfluid for 6speed manual gearbox

Going to do a service flush/fill on my 2004 Acura tl, bought it used and haven't done a fluid change since i got it, anyone have a recommendation for fluid type? was thinking about going with 75-80 synchromesh from ac Delco but would love to see what more experienced owners have used, how long, and your preferences regarding the transmission fluid. thanks for anyone who replies!

GM Synchromesh modified if I remember correctly but you need to search for the exact name/part number on the site. The newer Acura MTF is supposed to be good but not as good as the GM stuff from what I read a few years ago.

@Bense any advice on this for the 3G TL? I know it suffers from the notchy/popping out of 3rd gear for a long time with the acura fluid but was resolved with GM Fluid, but that was posted many years ago.

Since I'm not sure exactly which product you mean when you say, "75-80 synchromesh from ac Delco", the de facto standard manual transmission fluid for the 3rd generation TL is - according to the Amazon name for the AC Delco-branded product - "ACDelco GM Original Equipment 10-4014 Friction Modified Synchromesh Transmission Fluid" (ASIN B0026JK8FK).

all i can advise is search the 3G TL forum for Synchromesh and you should find a thread with the part number from GM and a possibly a picture of the bottle. That was found to be really good in solving the 3rd gear popping out or feeling notchy with the factory fill Acura MTF. Like I said earlier the newer Acura MTF was improved but not as good as the GM Synchromesh if memory serves me right.

We are almost certainly referencing the same product, just with varying accuracy, currency, and usefulness of reference. The important term in this case is "Friction Modified".

^^100%. I switched from the OEM to the GM fluid and never looked back. Again - OP just needs to ID the correct name/nomenclature and part number.

This is what you are looking for:

Check prices at your local Chevy dealer to see if you save on shipping. Same stuff used in 1999 Cavalier Z-24 and several other GM vehicles. Friction Modified is what you need. This stuff worked wonders in my 2005.

This is good advice. The parts department of any GM dealership will likely have this in stock. My local Acura dealer has a Chevrolet one next door (and Lexus on the other side).

The RockAuto price, even with $8.99 USPS shipping is cheaper than Amazon with "free" shipping, but the price has gone way up recently.
