Dirk Nowitzki hit 30k last night! Legend!!

oh and opinion - if you had option to have a rotary saw AND a sliding miter saw would you, or would you just plump for a good sliding miter?

How often would you use the rotary? You gonna be ripping a lot?

Personally I'd just get a good sliding 10" sliding miter saw.

i was planning on just a good miter saw, someone just offered the rotary, but i figured i could put the money towards a better miter. originally was going for a 10" saw for finer cuts and stuff then i saw a dewalt DWS780 for sale and was tempted....i need to get one so i can do the floors soon.

They serve two very different functions... you can't rip cut on a miter.

Personally, I prefer the 10" blades because they're cheaper and whenever I go to the store, they have a much bigger selection of blades for 10" vs 12". That being said, when your blade goes dull, take it to get sharpened (just look a knife sharpening guy in your area) as opposed to buying a new blade. It's way cheaper than replacing the blade and they can generally be resharpened multiple times.

I don't know what you mean by "finer" cuts. A mitre saw is a mitre saw, in terms of cutting through a piece of would. I would definitely pay for the ability to get a sliding one... I haven't found anything I wasn't able to cut with my 10" sliding mitre, except when I was trying to cut 2 2x12s at the same time... not something you normally do... if ever. I was just being lazy and didn't want to cut one at a time.

If you're doing floors, I highly suggest using a mitre. You can do it with a rotary, but it ultimately will be more effort.

That being said, a good mitre costs way more than a good rotary. In fact, you can get away with a not so expensive rotary. You don't do fine cuts or finishing work with it. I paid more for mine because it is supposedly lighter, but beyond that, man, I can't really notice much difference between it and a cheaper option.

For a mitre, personally, I like having dual bevel abilities, as well as sliding. Some come with lasers, but its a useless feature in my mind. After using my saw for two weeks, I never used the laser again. It doesn't line up perfectly with the blade, so you always have to offset the cut anyway. These days, I Just line up the blade where I want it and go.

The DWS780 is a nice saw, but unless your a contractor that specifically needs that extra 2" of blade, I doubt you'll ever make use of it. I've finished basements, built a garage, built fences, decks, stairs, shelves, etc. and I've never found the 10" to not be enough. Also, the bigger the blade, the heavier the saw. It gets a pain moving tools around, in that regard. Mitres are not light by any means.

Ugh. Twice now... I tried again to pork a pineapple and failed yet again. This time I actually made it hot (cooked it). But didn't get around to eating it until a few days later. And I think the acid in the pineapple broke down some of the cellular protein so my pork felt funny in the mouth.

I think I'm done porking pineapples.

Probably just sticking with cantalopes.
