Bimmer update...I've owned the car for 8 days...in the shop for 6 waiting on an ordered heater core, first one ever according to the service adviser at the BMW dealer here. It's OK though, our weather hasn't been good so it would have been sitting in my garage. I'll get it back tomorrow.

 

I doubt the actual core went bad unless it was filled with silicates from shitty coolant. All it does is sump hot coolant, more than likely a valve to the core.

Gary, if it's gonna be in the shop 6 days out of 8...go back and get your TL!

 

heater core can be a bitch but it shouldn't take that long to replace it. I say if they're waiting on a part, you should be driving your ride or they should at least give you a 235i or M4 loaner..

Denali has a slow leak in the left rear tire... going to take it to the tire shop over lunch today and have that taken care of.

Otherwise, it's getting 15 mpg, handles like a drunken whale, and I love it.

I agree, the core wasn't leaking, I think it was a valve that is in the core.

I still have the TL...final sale is today to my son's fiance. I'll have the bimmer back today. Weather has been crappy here with snow, ice, and the resultant gravel on the road that I haven't driven the BMW or the TL since I got back from buying the car a week ago. I've been driving my 2003 Beast (Durango).

You're right Maj...I should have ask for one, but agin, the roads have been crappy. I don't think I could have kept either on the road.

 

15 is pretty good....I average about 13 in my Durango.

 

It's rated at 17 highway... some friends and I are taking it on a ski trip in a few weeks so I guess we'll find out.

Oh, and the tires on this are the largest I've owned. 275/55/20's.

 

Bruh, my tundra had the worst tires on the rears in the history of tires.. I loved picking friends up in it after a light rain. I'd take a turn and get that bitch sideways like we were lolollerskaing.. lol. They'd freak the fuck out like we were going to die or rollover. LOL!

 

My Durango is also rated 17 on the highway...best I ever got was 16...I think it all goes back to the inflated MPG ratings the manufacturers used back in the day...

There's a famous cliff back home that tourist like to visit.. took my classmate and her bf to sightsee.. I got it sideways at the turn off. Scared the shit out of them.. ah.. good times. They decided to ride back in my brosefs van.

 

All I know is the service advisor said the technician checked all the blend doors and valves etc. and that all were working correctly. Told me even the drivers side wasn't blowing hot enough...I thought is was hotter than hell, but I'm not the tech. And after I typed "in the core" I thought, that can't be right. All I know is what he told me...replacing the heater core?

 

I can see some rust bubble starting on my driver side rear door, at the bottom.

I fell out of the back of a pickup going around a corner once...landed on my head...that explains a lot.

 

Agree....nooooooo! Fix it immediately, then sell the Japanese steel POS.

 

No way in hell I'm selling the TL. I even had it for a year! Also everything under was always rust proofed, just obviously you don't spray the doors themselves (although you do spray at the bottom inside the door through the water evacuation holes for the windows).

But yes, I'll fix it as soon as winter is over. Still a PITA.

holy moleee GK.. don't get alzheimparkinsons on us.. ouch. Back home everyone rides in the back. I'd see work trucks with like 15 chinese in a small hilux pickup. Or family of 8 with baby. There are accidents once in a while too.

 

That's the good thing about being the heart of TX.. 40 yr old car, not a spot of rust.

Oh don't I wish. It's the fucking winter salt here, it kills everything. But my dash hasn't cracked yet due to sun though, at least.

 

That sucks... Ryan's TL had/has some near the rear passenger door, at the bottom. He did a pretty good sand/fix job to prevent it from spreading, but I also noticed some starting inside his gas filler door (on the body, not the door). Really curious why such a "young" car would do that. Not like there was paint broken and moisture got underneath.

Also, speaking of that Ryan guy, I saw him on Saturday so we could give each other the Christmas gifts that we bought before breakup fun happened. Was nice enough, sort of awkward, pleasant, whatever. No interest in being his friend or getting back together, though, after he dragged me through the mud for what, three weeks. He's gotta learn to treat people better than that.

 

On the Denali? Shit son, your truck gots cancer. It'll keep coming back. It may take 6 months or 6 years, but it'll be back.

I tried having my 1992 Civic Si repaired, back in the day. Ordered new replacement rear quarter panels and had a shop take care of the work... They did a nice job (I kept coming in everyday to see the progress, lol), but in the end it came back after the second or third winter. Thankfully I didn't own the car by then (was bought by an acquaintance of mine)

 

Just call the AZ crew in... We know how to deal with guys like that

Maj, you're doing it wrong. I took people in my S2000 and got it sideways and scared MYSELF instead.

 

Mine's a 2004, so you can't really say young anymore. Only has 90K miles on it, but it still saw some winter obviously. Nothing completely unexpected, but it still sucks. I'll need to sand it, primer, paint, clear, buff. Already need to fix the spiderwebs and the scratches so that's just something to add to it.

Regarding Ryan... fuck him. In the non-literal way.
I could never ever be friends with exes, even if we got along decently. Either party seems to have leftover feelings for the other, or there's just weird tension going on, it's just awkward and unpleasant all along. And that's after you forgive them for treating you like shit for X amount of time. I'd rather just flip them the bird and be done with it.

After owning the S2000 I can honestly say that I'll never again own a car from up North. Texas, California only...even Florida, no salt but shady azz mofos that can't drive and repair things without reporting to insurance or popo.

TL is rust free...always will be.

 

About halfway there.. HI is home numero dos.

It's not the sun that really fucks the dash up. It's the temperature change and poor insulation between the polyurethane cover. The dash is made of of a thin layer of foam covered in polyu. The foam doesn't stretch, but the polyu does.

So when it's hot or cold, you hit the HVAC that runs right under the dash and you have expansion and contraction going on that eventually makes teh polyu crack where there are divisions like where the passenger airbag runs, gaps where the center speaker sits, etc.

If you cover the top of the dash on hot / cold days or slowly cool / heat the cabin, it probably wouldn't crack.

 

Seriously.. I'll see a low price car from NY or dirty Jerz.. or FL.. and I"m like, fuck that. Probably flood car.

Actually, there's an ebaymotors auction house that's based in Texas...I'd go that route next time...not that long of a drive back home and a good way to see what'll break up front.

Spot fkng on on your analysis on the dash too...having had it happen to me and then having Acura replace it, that's it. That's Also why I have the window visors...at home it's in a garage...at work, I always leave the front two windows cracked and the sun shade up...keep the ambient temp in the car lower by a few dozen degrees...then ride home with the windows down until it's cooler and then kick on the AC (if I even need to).

 

Having lived in HI, riding in the back of a pickup is SOP there. Hawaiians, Chinese, Filipinos, Haoles...all ride in the back. I fell out of the back of an Indian's (Native American to be politically correct) pickup when I was in high school whilst briefly living in Nevada. We also had a water balloon battle once between cars and trucks...casualties were 2 windshields....we weren't smart enough to know that a water balloon is like a rock when traveling 40-50 mph. DUH
