Happy days-after-Christmas, erryone!
I've had a ton of time off of work (and am off til the 5th...) so have been getting a TON of work done on the M3. Took off the clutch pedal to replace the bushings and reduce side-to-side play, which involves laying on your back with the seat removed, working above your head. It's as thrilling as it sounds.
Also pulled the intake manifold to delete some emissions crap and install a real water temperature gauge. The brass doodad with the black/white wires is the sender. About to head out and wire up the gauge for power before I bolt everything back up.
Got a timing transponder for Christmas - it's the thingy that "hits" when you cross the start line each lap and records your lap times. I've been borrowing them for this first year of Time Trials, so it's great to have my own finally. So, it's all mounted up:
Still need to finish the power steering lines, do some fluids, and get the one wheel bearing replaced, but I'm making good progress.
Oh, and I test-drove some SUVs. Decided on an '04-'06 Yukon Denali, short wheelbase (so, not the XL) in blue. Gonna start my searching soon and hopefully buy in February/March. Eeeep.

Quiet day at home with the wife and kid after several consecutive days of extended-family-related dinners and get-togethers...
I could use some R&R now. Zzzzz...

Dunno if you piston-heads ever go into the Motorsports sub-forum, but, this video is really cool to watch (about the Motorhead Hill Climb in Japan): https://acurazine.com/forums/motorsp.../#post15281999

Looks like you're enjoying the holidays so that's good. I wish I could work on the car during the winter too instead of lazing around the place watching some Netflix.

Having a garage helps (although I'll lose it when I move in the spring) but it's been unseasonably warm the past few days. Like highs in the mid to upper 50s (*F for you commies). I'm wondering how long that will last, because it's been greatly motivating so far...

Hot.
It does for sure. Even though the weather has been really good last 2 weeks with around 8 (*C for you archaic members, ~47F anyway) it's still wet on the ground. Not really fun when it's like that.
On a completely unrelated note, I was riding in the metro with my girlfriend when I complained that my neck hurt: "My neck hurts" I said more precisely. Her face turned cold and her eyes widened as she hinted and pointed with her chin at the several black men sitting next to us. I didn't understand until a few moments later after repeating "My neck hurts" a few times quickly in my head...

Polo...I really hadn't made up my mind except that I had decided to keep my TL. Then I see my Son's fiance' on Christmas Eve, and she made me feel guilty renigging on selling her my TL. So I started looking. The 4th G TL just didn't do it for me. I found this 2011 335i at BMW of Austin, listed for $23,888. I checked book on it which was in the range of $29K for a Certified Pre-owned. Hmmm, buy a good car for $5K under book. Talked to the CPO sales manager on Friday AM. He swore to me that car was in great shape, non-smoker, spotless interior, few nicks and chips on the front bumber, hood, and fenders. I flew down there Saturday morning, took a 45 minute test drive. He was right, the car was in great shape, and driving it got me excited. For some crazy reason it had been on their lot for 3 months, hence the lower price. I got it for $23K, not including taxes and registration. I think I got a hell of a deal. Drove home Saturday and Sunday. Found out the car does have one issue...climate control system only blows cold air on the passenger side, talked to the salesman, he said I'll get back to you. 10 minutes later he calls me and says he called and made arrangements for me to take it to my local BMW dealer and they will fix it. It is covered under the CPO warranty but there is a $50 deductible which Austin BMW is covering so all good.
This 335i is a great and fun car to drive...cruised along at 80-85 like nothing. Got 28 mpg on my 850 mile trip home. Not quite as good as the TL but still pretty good. It is an automatic with paddle shifters. It is quite quick too. At any rate, thanks for the "thanks" on my original post announcing this. I'm still going to be around.
I will do some very minor mods...trunk lip and new side marker lights. I'll post some pictures after I get the car back.
Ill still be around cuz I like you guys!

My good friend has a 2009 328i and my boss used to have a 2011 335xi (now driving a F-150 for towing reasons). Great car, and you bet that thing is quick! Too quick haha. Turbo baby! My boss was glad to get rid of his as the maintenance seemed tedious and the warranty would end eventually. Performance wise the 328i and the TL are very similar, but the 335xi eats both by like a whole second on the 1/4 mile.
The only things I dislike are the center console which doesn't inspire me at all. It's so squarish and bland. The cluster is also very tightly packed, almost crammed. Just a matter of taste though.
The rest is mighty fine, the germans sure know how to make cars. I see too many bimmers here though (so many 328i), I'm happy the TL is "rarer" even though it's a pretty common car. Must mean something though if everybody's buying them.

Peformance of the 335i is 4.9 sec to 60 (per C & D), 08 Base TL is 6.9 sec. Big difference. C & D says the believe that BMW under rates there published HP. who knows, I do know this car is way faster than the TL.
1/4 miles times are 13.6 compared to 15.4. Almost no Turbo lag and the 300 lb/ft of torque...wahoo.

I think the 335i is rarer here...hard to tell cuz I haven't started to notice the Bimmers yet. Now my kid and fiance will have an 04 TL and an 08 TL in their garage. Now he's jealous of her...pretty funny.

Also 15.4 is a sucky 1/4 for a TL, on a good day it's a ~14.5 car.
Not sure who drove the TL at C&D with the 0-60 in 6.9s (typo??) considering they did 5.9s on the 2005 TL:
2005 Acura TL vs. 2005 Audi A4, 2006 BMW 330i, and Five More Entry-Luxury Sedans Comparison Tests - Page 0 - Car and Driver
On the A-Spec they pulled 5.6s 0-60 w/ 14.3 1/4:
Acura TL A-Spec - Short Take Road Test - Car Reviews - Car and Driver
And 5.7s on the TL M/T roadtest published 2004 w/ 14.4 1/4:
Acura TL - Road Test - Car Reviews - Car and Driver
It's consistently a sub-6s 0-60 car pretty much.
Not saying the 335i is a slouch (not by far, the numbers you got are pretty spot on), but more that the TL is in tune with the BMW 330i E46 performance-wise rather than lagging behind.
Biggest downside to the TL is by far the FWD. Oh wouldn't it be nice if this was RWD. Weight would be more evenly distributed (currently 60/40) and it would be a charm in cornering. Torque steering wouldn't be an issue too (less present on the A/T). This would help cornering tremendously. There the perfectly balanced BMW wins hands down.

Also I'm totally having tonsillitis right before leaving for another province for new years. FML. No time to go to the docs and don't have any left over antibiotics because I'm not usually sick. -_-

Problem is that with clinics in Quebec, although free, all have long waiting time. Think 5+ hours for a quick doctor consult so you can have stupid antibiotics, and that's if you get there early in the morning (6:30). I'm working 8:30 to 5 tomorrow, and 8:30 to 12 Wednesday. I need to leave ASAP on Wednesday since I have 6+ hours of driving and I come back on January 4th during the day...
So I'm going to try to gargle Listerine and salty water while eating a bunch of Ibuprofen to keep the swelling to a minimum, at least until I come back on the 4th. Might go to the clinic on the 5th/6th or something. Might die before then. I wish I knew a few people with left overs antibiotics so I could just eat those for a few days and be done. Sadly my GF only have 3 ciproflaxin 500mg (should take 2 a day) left and I haven't found anyone else.

Still upset you didn't ask me to check it out.. it's okay.
Brah.. there are so many desis here. They drive like shit so they prefer to drive small cars like civics. Yet they want to show their wealth so they buy the most pimp civic they can buy, a 335.
23.8k is not bad considering you don't have to pay in-state tax on it and it's CPO.
Now stick a juicebox in it.

a drink then some water and so forth. End night with 500mg of ibuprofen, wake up with a gatorade and there you go.
Obviously it's never like that. More like drink drink drink drink then "rest your eyes" = pass out.

Hi all, thanks for the good wishes on the bimmer. Funny tho...already at the shop, climate control is effed up, only blows cold on passenger's side, Texas dealer is covering any cost which would only be CPO warranty deductible of $50. It was too warm in Austin to tell, not til I got to Amarillo and it was about 5* did I figure it out. Brrr!!! Driver's side on high heat, all passenger vents closed cept for defroster...had to have that open cuz the windshield was fogging up.
