I will agree the 3G is a better looking car, but I've got 85K on it and I'm uncomfortable with a higher mileage car. Plus, she really needs a car and this would be a good car for her at a good price. The '12 has 30K on it so 12 months and 20K left on the factory warranty. and the 4G, after 2011 has grown on me. Painting the big part of the beak body color makes it look damn good. And the technology is better, even though I don't want the tech package. The Acura/Honda Nav is not that great, google maps on my iPhone is better. OK...trying to talk myself into it.

85K is so far from a high mileage for the Acura. 85K is practically brand new!

Mmmmeh on the 4G. There's been a gray one parked in my neighborhood all week (someone visiting, I guess) and the front and rear alike just don't do it for me. I don't love the beak but I would rather look at that than the rear of the damn thing.
You're trying to use mileage as an excuse because you want a shiny new thing I do it all the time... hence why I'm talking about Grand Cherokees and Touaregs.

I have a hard time finding a suitable alternative, most will have tow capacity up to ~3500 give or take. Both the Q7 and Cayenne are similar but more expensive by quite a bit. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Toyota Sequoia, can't say I'm a bigger fan of this one than the VW.

Eh, I imagine if you need the tow then sure. Not my cup of tea though, and VW... We don't have any V8 FSI model in Canada though.

Other options with the tow abilities I need include the 2008-2010 Grand Cherokee V8, 2006+ Explorer, 2004-2006 Yukon Denali (but my god they are big), the Envoy Denali/Saab 9-7x twins, or a (sigh) 4Runner V8.
I hate Toyotas so much.

Good morning I love Fridays! I'm off and get to sleep late.
I almost bought an 03 Denali one time, but my dad talked me out of it. I'd say you should go with whatever has the perfect balance of style/towing capability that you're looking for and need.
All VWs aren't bad. I absolutely love the CC!! I'd even drive a nice Passat.

Yeah, agreed on the Q7/Cayenne twins... and frankly I think the VW has the nicest interior of the three. I can get a Cayenne V8 for cheap enough (not really much more than the 'Dub) but the interior is soooo bad.

Freaking Yukon's gonna make you look like a cheesy rapper.
That said, how much do you need to be able to tow? Explorers are rated at 5000lbs so that opens up the choice thing a bit.

Although, if you get the Touareg you won't have to worry about telling anyone you don't like girls.

I need to go drive one, I guess. Problem is most of them seem to have that peanut-butter-baby-shit-tan interior. I'd much rather have black. They are out there, though, and similar prices as the VW and Jeep ($15-21k).
I need to have a tow capacity of about 6500 lbs. 3k BMW, plus 2k trailer (over-estimating) and spare parts/wheels. 06+ Explorer would do it but their interiors are pretty bland, and it's priced similarly to the Cayenne/T-Reg/JGC.

Also I'm not sure it matters if you're driving a Cayenne or a Ford Explorer when you're towing a BMW and a trailer. The good side to driving an American truck/suv is the cost of parts + any labor should turn out to be much cheaper.

Ah okay, missed the 06+. 11+ they only make the Explorers with 3.5L V6.

My goal is to move closer to work and DC in the spring, which means I wouldn't necessarily have to drive to work every day. In that case, screw gas mileage and having a newer, nicer truck. I'll take the 05 Denali for cash and walk to work, whistling as I have no car payment.

Yeah, agreed. Hence my interest in the Yukon. The Denali got the 6.0L (versus the 5.3) and more importantly, came with a stronger transmission. I could nab one for under $10k, it'd require very little maintenance, cost very little to insure, and still be pretty nice inside.

I'm 10 minutes away and literally 1.86 miles from work. It's the best thing ever. Gas sure is expensive up here, but I only need to refuel the TL every 2 weeks. At that point of "stop and go" and constantly starting the car going from home to work to groceries to gym and whatnot yet doing so little mileage, I could be driving a V12 it wouldn't make so much of a difference on gas.

Okay, Denali is approved, Jake.
I'm 5 miles from work. I need to ride my bike a few days a week. I'm fat.
I also don't care about MPG too much lately...if we road trip it, I get 27...otherwise, 20 around town. Not bad when it lasts 10 days.
Registered Bunny
Around town I get ~21 MPG in warm winter but when I had to pickup my GF last summer (took a full tank) I did 29 MPG. No WOT then though, cruise control like an old man all the way. Actually got pissed when someone broke my cruise control streak of around 45 minutes and I had to disengage it.
