Well, FWIW, some of the best sushi I've had was in Taipei...but, that restaurant is Japanese owned and all the Chinese chefs there were trained by the master.

The Korean joints here that try to sell sushi are gross.

Mmmm I love me some legit sushi. And no, not the fucking dragon rolls, or Cali rolls, or whatever the fuck alberta rolls (yup, they exist... And they have beef in them instead of fish )

I like eating the funky stuff. The funkier the better. I don't care who the fuck makes the food, as I'm sure there likely isn't a single Japanese owned/run sushi place here and I sadly don't have my G6 available to fly me to the coast for some good stuff. As long as it isn't 167% whitized, I'm down for the get down. I've run into many people claiming to "love" sushi too, and then just eat California cones... And peeling the seaweed off. For fuck sakes...

I remember having some good sushi in Victoria. God, I miss that place.

Same goes for pho. Load me up with tripe, tendon, beef bones (love the bone marrow), etc. the one thing I don't like is the fucking meatballs. They always taste like rubber, where ever I go. And sometimes a little crunchy. Wtf.

Any of you slores ever try blow fish sushi? I've only ever heard of it but never have come across a place that serves it. I guess it takes some skills not to poison people when cutting it, lol.

Ever see the look on a gwairo's face when you eat sashimi? They're like "da fuq..."

Fugu? Overrated. It tastes like tai or hirame to be honest.

Not worth the price.

Vancouver is awesome for sushi. And the izakaya places are just...amazing. I miss it there.

Locally, you guys have this place called "Sumo Sumo" which on Urban Spoon has like, one of the highest rankings ever...?

So, naturally, I looked at the menu. This place has AYCE and a sushi that has mustard in it. GIANT warning signs of STAY-AWAY...yet, apparently, people love it??!?

Every pho place here uses what appears to be some kind of store bought meatballs. Not sure where they get them from, but I'm skeptical to believe they are made in house. And there is like 50 pho places here in town! It just tastes and feels like eating something mechanically made. Bleh.

Everything else is fair game though, lol.

Most pho joints in smaller cities are supplied by 1-2 Vietnamese meat stores that sell a variety of their balls and processed meats.

You should look it up and I would give you 4 robots that there is one in the middle of Chinatown over there. Probably a small hole in the wall too. But, they make some of the finest Viet meatballs there is.

Haha I went to sumo sumo before. Definitely whitized in a major way. Again, if people don't have the ability to try something the way it's supposed to be, how do they know if what they're eating is shit? They have nothing to base their rating off of. I don't trust urban spoon either. Pretty sure people make fake accounts all the time to promote their own businesses. I've gone to places that were rated super good and they were nothing short of disappointing.

It's hard to take any reviews seriously these days, for anything. Wifey wanted a kitchen aid stand up mixer a couple years ago and all the reviews I was reading said it was the shittiest product that always breaks (even the top end ones, with the high output motors). Besides wifey, I know three others who have one and regularly use them and no one has ever had any issues. People were claiming they have plastic gears inside that break, etc. it opened our up out of curiosity and they were metal pretty sure kitchen aid knows that people will be mixing heavy dough with them and being $350-550, I'm sure they're built to last... But I digress...

I'll try anything once and eat all kinds of stuff. Didn't like the texture of chicken feet though. Too slimy.

@ Kitchen Aid stand mixer...Most women I know buy it more as a kitchen "decorative" piece than anything.

If your wife actually is serious about cooking and using it, when my wife and I shopped for one, the Cuisinart mixer, while not the "best" out there was the one we went with. It's been great.

Mmmm...properly done Viet-style meat-balls are great stuff. Really is terrific in pho or bun. So, I'd suggest you to look into some of the more authentic joints locally.

Rule of thumb: If the place is packed with Vietnamese people or is kinda dirty? It's probably really good.

And also, some crap places like to shortcut the pho broth by using store-bought pho/beef-cubes. So...

No no, I assure you, the places I eat are authentic. Plenty of sitting around inside, and definitely not clean either, lol. That's how my brother and I judge whether a place is authentic... By how dirty the bathroom is

I just don't like those balls. They're too small for my liking

I actually did look at that cuisinart one you're talking about. I think they only have one, if I remember correctly. Honestly, as far as I could tell, there was no clear cut "this is the best option" for those damn mixers. The reviews are clearly all done by ladies, hence why they're confusing and not straight forward. As always, read between the lines, if you can

And yes, my wifey uses hers all the time. I'd say 1-2 times per week. We've had the thing for 2-2.5 years now and it's never given us trouble. We also got it at a good price from Costco. What more can you ask for?

And lol at people using theirs as kitchen deco. The 3 others I was talking about are definitely used a lot, although we do know some people who use theirs just for display. Pretty sure they've never mixed anything beyond a cake-in-a-box, once. But at least it looks good!

I think if we just ignore the thread maybe it'll go die in a fire... for the life of me, I still can't understand why the thread was started in the first place? Were they really adamant about saving a couple dollars at the tank each week? HEY HERE'S AN IDEA! Don't buy a TL. Go back to your civic that runs on 87 and costs half as much to buy and maintain. /endrant..

The amount of time they spent arguing for regular fuel, they could've picked up a part time job to cover the extra $3.450 for fuel...

NFN has been a thorn since he joined. I think he actually makes a point to be one.

There are so many threads between NFN - IHC and Turbonut. I think NFN is just old school.. old dog doesn't want to learn new tricks. The guy has an extensive resume to say the least.. lots of experience.

You just have to let it go when having a discussion with him and agree to disagree.. nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it's really tough to do the same with Turbonut.

Because we bust your chops all the time.. guy isn't a bad guy. I agree with him on many things. Fluids is a sensitive subject to discuss.. it's like religion, sexuality, politics, salad dressing.

Yeah I definitely think you're right. you can't reason with stupid..

Oh well..

In other news, has anyone ever been to Raleigh, NC and Columbia, SC? Looks like my project in Florida is coming to an end at the end of the month
and I'll be going to those two places.

The only problem I have with nfn is that he seems to go off on tangents a lot. You can write an elaborate response and if one of your sentences has an error, he'll run with it and ignore everything else.

Reminds me of arguing with my ex.
