Well, FWIW, I was quite disappointed with my favorite hockey team getting ousted yesterday.

Hard to put a finger on it...and I know these athletes are paid bazillions to play a GAME...and do they really care THAT much about the average joe fan? Probably not. Still, the team represents an idea...and coming from Chicago, it's for me, a community reaction, that is personal and kinda visceral.

It is a tie to a personal identity...I think back to watching games with my Dad. To seeing how he cared about it. Again, something very...abstract, I suppose.

Anyhow, that's my attempt to be philosophical on a Monday morning.

Cuz, it's expensive. The wife and I were talking about letting Little Cha play hockey as he gets older and well, it's freaking expensive (equipment).

All my hombres in canuckistan played hockey when they were young. When I visited, we'd play inline skate hockey on the street during off-season, "car!", then hit the ice during the season. I skate like shit so I just played goalie. We all transitioned to golf.

Street hockey is common around here. Depends on the neighborhood but with 2 of my best friends also having kids, I can see Little Cha and those guys playing some pick up games here and there for fun.

I think Rugby is worse...at least in hockey, you're relatively padded and protected.

I wanted to play football in HS but my mommy didn't sign the waiver so I joined ROTC instead and became the best at that.

I played football in Jr High and HS, varsity lettered. I also played Rugby in HS and after HS on my buddies league. The worst injury I saw in football was my brosef getting his plant foot stuck (either a hole they didn't know about or the soil sank at the moment he stepped in it), he was then subsequently tackled and he suffered a horrific compound fracture. He was on the radio for the next few days while in the hospital. He healed 100% but didn't play again, too interested in skating anyways. I broke fingers, bruised ribs, luckily no concussions. I think I'd get my kid into la crosse, water polo, so they're more valuable to ivy league schools.

Also Judo, BJJ, TKD, HKD, Boxing, Eskrima, Kendo, Fencing

Join the club. Between playing piano and doing homework, WTF was team sports?

Personal time was bike-rides and playing my Nintendo.

Fine, I'll share.

First year of sports, soccer, 4 years old. Wasn't for me.

Next year, t-ball. Then from there I played baseball till I think 12 years old...

Somewhere in between I tried a year of flag football. Wasn't for me either.
