I know.. Academy Awards too.. but every fucking year I watch.

Talking about the Oscars.. Fucking Captain Phillips is nominated yet they dog Fruitvale. I can somewhat understand the Butler as a movie, but Captain Phillips was a horrible movie. It sucked ass, and even though Tom Hanks and Barkhad did their thing, it was garbage.

I just watched Captain Phillips last night, how can a movie that is a true story be horrible. I thought it was great, very realistic. Characters were portrayed very well, showed real fear. And thank God for the Navy Seals. What didn't you like Maj? I saw a Making of Captain Phillips. The pretty much interviewed everyone involved and tried to get the story as accurately as possible.

It should have never made the screen. If it involved the money saving scheme by the captain / company that ultimately put the crew at risk, maybe it would have made for a better movie. The only thing noteworthy about the movie was the simultaneous shot by seal team 6.

The broken glass, the innocent kid / pirate, going into shock, the captain paranoid about pirates, captain writing a note / not telling his wife about the situation is artistic license. A crew member testified that he warned the captain of a suspicious boat, and Phillips laughed at him and told him it was just a fishing capsule. It was much ado about nothing. I felt like I wasted my time watching it. The news reports were more interesting at the time.

I just read the article about the crew's statements...first, I don't blame them for suing Maersk, their was negligence for their safety. But what bugs me is that the statements are partly from an anonymous crew member. No balls to stand up and tell the truth? In the article the crew members say there was garbage about him giving himself up, that was shown in the movie, he was taken hostage and forced into the lifeboat. There are always cases of artistic license in every film about a true story. Anyway, I liked it. Even though I knew the outcome it was still and edge of the seat movie.

I liked the acting, it was good. There just wasn't enough meat on it for me to get emotionally involved.

You know how I could tell that Gump was not real? A white boy beat the @ ping-pong. That ain't right.

Kinda like in Willy Smith's Kung-Fu Kid movie where his black son beat the @ kung-fu.

Captain Phillips was pretty good, watched it last night. A little slower than I had thought it would be but overall pretty good. Tom Hanks did a great job.

I read the wiki on the actual story and though the simultaneous seal shots were the compelling part too...

Fruitvale did seem a little hokey, like oh look at me, I'm so innocent and turning my life around and then bam...they lead you to the emotion when in reality I'm sure it wasn't THAT one sided.

There was nothing hokey or one-sided about it. Coogler portrayed Oscar in all lights. A felon, a drug dealer, aggressive, a cheat, but nothing is black and white. He was also a father, a son, a friend, etc. He wasn't innocent but he wasn't a monster. Honestly, he's a lot like many of the guys I grew up with.

Just screw ups who hadn't had their shit together by the time they became adults. Coogler honestly portrayed the last hours of Oscar's life, with the exception of the pitbull scene and the weed dump. The pitbull scene is symbolic of black men in society, especially the inner-city. The weed dump was symbolic of Oscar turning things around which his girlfriend and mom both shared.

Most of the details are real.
