2008 TL-S Transmission Failure

Noticed a transmission whine and a leak on the bottom of my transmission. Took it in to the dealer as its under warranty and they decided to replace the entire unit.

Original owner and 55k on the car..never beat on.

Stay tuned for details.

That's a long warranty--I assume you purchased an Acura extended warranty? In this case it paid off.

Did you ever replace the original Z1 transmission fluid? (not that any transmission should fail for any reason at 55K...)

What were the symptoms besides ATF leaking? was it even ATF? And they all whine a little. Its somewhat of a rarity to hear of an 07/08 AT failing. At least it was replaced under warranty.

I had 17 days of bumper to bumper warranty left....purchased an extra year when I purchased the car. Fluid was changed once at 30k but with the OEM Z1. It did shift and run fine but the leak and whine were just nuisances I wanted to take care of, certainly didn't expect this.

Powertrain warranty is also 6/70k.

Sorry about your TL-S. So uncommon for tranny failures in the 07/08 TL's.

Wow I'm surprised that a 08 had tranny failure.

I thought those were bullet proof with that second 3rd pressure switch.

I wonder if the z1 was the culpret? I think it was replaced with the dw1 back in 2010, so its been quite a while since op changed his fluid. Still tho, he said he only has 55k on the car so who knows?

A 3x3 was done ~30k miles so the fluid didn't have that much use IMHO. Regardless, the dealership has been excellent (Acura of Westchester) about and my SA left a voicemail that the leak is at some joint between the transmission and ?(couldn't make it out from the voicemail).

Yeah, if the dealership replaced it under warrantee after only seeing a leak then good on them. like others have said the 07/08 Autos have an impeccable trac record, so the second one shouldn't give you any trouble.

bulletproof of not, theres bound to be at least 1 failure in 1000 transmissions. and guess how many thousand TL-S are in the world.

Dude! That sucks, but thats really great that you purchased that warranty. I highly recommend purchasing a extended warranty only thru a dealer if purchased. I bought my 07 a year ago from my dealership and paid $1500 for my warranty with a $100 deduct. Ive had $5000 in work done since then. Im a mechanic so lucky me I know what to look for and brought it in for everything possible. Im covered for another 5000 miles, need to get some new axles before then since they are causing a vibration under hard accelleration. Horray for only a few days and getting that covered! Happy for you man! Finally someone actually WINS!
