New opinion on 4G
New opinion on 4G
I know the general consensus of many of us 3G owners is that the 4G is ugly.
I have to admit, from about 2009-2012 I basically agreed. I hated the 4G. Lately though its been growing on me. I know I'm not the only one (calling you out KJ!) haha.
Came across this on craigslist. Seems drastically underpriced but it does have 90k miles. I kind of wish the seller put more info but it seems legit.
If i had the time right now to part out and sell my car I'd go take a look at this thing asap. Unfortunately I need my car daily right now and don't have the time/money to have two $20k 6MT TL's parked in my driveway.
Thoughts? I think the wheels are ugly but I'm assuming he means it will also come with the 19" factory wheels. The only downside I can see is if the car has a rebuilt title. I feel like there must be a reason why its almost 8k under priced...Its really not uncommon to see rebuilt title Acura's since they are not shipped overseas. Usually other cars that are wrecked and deemed salvage are purchased and exported (ask me how I know) lol.
So tempting...

"Car is mint,
no body damage, interior mint, do not smoke, car is clean
90k highway miles from Richmond
4 wheel drive
19inch Factory Acura wheels with good tires
6 speed manual transmission
no issues at all, all maintenance up to date
still a lien on it but can figure it out after.
questions please let me know. "

Haha, guilty as charged. I still don't love these cars stock, but with a few mods, I think they can be very sharp cars. I've heard the AWD system is fantastic too, especially when paired with the 6MT.
Rims are gross, but I'm actually a big fan of the 19" stockies, save for the weak offset.

Ah, so I guess I was right, it probably has a salvage title or salvage history. I was looking for any sign but I didn't realize the emblems are supposed to be up high on the 4G since I don't have any experience with them
Interesting! Also found a few on cars.com and autotrader priced close to this one with less miles, I guess I didn't realize that these cars are sub $25-30k these days.

The 2009-2011 are in my opinion still ugly, even with that painted grill. I will admit the 2012+ are MUCH MUCH better. The revised front and rear end, black headlights etc etc make a big difference. The overall body style isnt the greatest IMO, but not a bad car. I have always liked the interiors they are pretty nice.
That black one listed above is just ugly. Those black wheels and that huge painted black grill just look gross. Go 2012+ or none at all :-)

Yea, that emblem placement and bad wheels where a few red flags there, plus pretty high mileage.
Regardless, here is a pic from Matt's Acura's thread to how the car can be pulled off, at least it some people's opinions:

I actually like the 09-11 better - IMO, the painted grill looks great, better than the '12 grill. Plus the rear lip kit is much better looking on the 09-11 than the 12+ I think.

I think the thing that would have me most concerned is the statement 'has a lien on it but can figure it out after' - if the owner doesn't have the title, just forget this one. Also, do you really want to buy a rebuilt car (unless it really does have a clean title)?
I also was a big basher of the 4G but with the 2012 refresh, but I would consider one (2012+) if anything happened to my 06.

Agree - the paint matched grill really changes things IMO.

Well, I wasn't super serious about buying this one as I don't have the funds for it; but it seemed super cheap. Looking around now though it seems its not THAT great of a price (even if it weren't likely salvage or with salvage history.
If a car has a salvage title my understanding is that it has been deemed as a total loss but repaired anyway, in other words the cost to repair the car was close to or over 75% of the value of the car at one point.
Salvage histnory is the basically the same thing, except the title has been "cleaned" by repairing the car and having it pass safety inspections. In VA I believe you have to file with the State Police to inspect the car to wash the title.
Its morning dew.For now, my TLS is here to stay.
