2008 Acura TL Base CPO questions
Hi
I am new to this forum and I need some advice/information. I am interested in buying a 2008 Acura TL base CPO (will be my first) and I test drove couple cars. Before I make the plunge and buy a ACURA CPO car, I have some questions to which I hope to get answers from this forum. Here are my questions, all of them based on 2008 base model -
- one of the dealers has 4 CPO vehicle with mileage ranging from 25K to 37K (colors - red, gray, bronze, silver). However, each is priced the same - $23K. How come? Am I missing something here? Am I making a big deal out of nothing?
- Also, another dealer has priced a similar car (silver color 28K miles) for just $21K. That is a difference of $2K. Also, this dealer has another car (bronze - 36K miles) but has it priced for $22K. How come a car that has more miles on it is priced higher? Is it because of the color? I like both the colors. Should I be wary of the silver color car just because it is priced lower?
- Is 21K a fair price before taxes and registration? If not what would be a reasonable price?
- I am planning to get the 7yr/100,000 miles ACURA extended non-powertrain coverage as well. Only one dealer has given me a quote so far - $1800. Is this a fair price? If no, what is a reasonable price?
- final question is regarding the CARFAX report: some the cars have literally no information. All it contains is 'vehicle registration renewed' and some of them contain additional information like "vehicle serviced" or "scheduled maintenance performed". Is it better to buy one that has service records information in CARFAX or it really doesn’t matter?
I know I have posed a lot of questions. Thanks for patiently going through my questions. Your inputs/answers will be very much appreciated and will help clear my confusion
many thanks in advance!

I also just purchased a 2008 CPO TL. My main question is do all the cars have the same options (ie - Navigation)? When I went in, they wanted above 23k for a TL with Nav and I wasnt paying that when I got my TL for 19,100 without nav (Black on Taupe).
The car I got actually had an accident on it, but after some research it was just a bumper and not frame damage. So the CarFax is a handy piece of information. As you were thinking, it is better to know that the car was serviced regularly.

Above average condition 2008 TL's wholesale for around $21,000 these days due to the tight supply of 3-year old TL's. $ 21,000 before TTL is tough to achieve.
As for the "wrap" warranty, try to pay no more than $1,100.
Different dealers have different profit targets...Condition differences, color, cost to buy and recondition the car, and inventory will explain a lot of the price variance at the specific dealer.

Welcome to the forums. IMHO- get a TL w/ Navi. Also, I think $1800 is too much for the extended warranty.

CPO is just a warranty the dealer builds into the price. You can buy any car without it and save money. If you are buying the 100k warranty you do not need the CPO as well. That said the 100K warranty has more exclusions than the CPO warranty. I find dealers ask about $2K over the CPO price and without CPO it is $600 to $1000 less. I got my 100k for $1200, but others got theirs for under $1000.

Just got a CPO 2008 NBP/Ebony TL standard a month ago. Paid $24K with 24K miles and a VERY clean car with Nav and service records. I value "value" over "bargain" as the car I drive should be a good fit and that is worth a bit more sometimes. The value in a 2008 is obvious (last year of 3G, low miles, average careful owners), so your pick is good. The difference in prices/mileage is likely things you need to look at more carefully. For example, I found a CBP sedan at the same dealer with 18K miles for the same price. Upon closer inspection, it was flawed in paint, missing some engine trim parts, and showed signs of tire abuse.
YMMV.

Personally I’d purchase the TL with Nav, as resale value is greater and it affords many more options than just the antiqued mapping system and yes, I have the latest disc. Having said that, it boils down to the car of your choice, interior/exterior color, overall condition, tires, etc. The CPO is a good deal as long as the car isn't overpriced as you'll receive an extra 1/12 added to the basic warranty, roadside assistance along with the 7/100 power train coverage. I purchased the "extended" warranty as it was only $800, but expires this month and it was never needed.
Carfax is only as good as the information received as some dealers, shops, don't supply the info and if the maintenance was done by the owner and body work was never reported to the insurance company there will be no record of repairs.
A CPO car is not always the cream of the crop, so have someone inspect the car carefully and also check the tires for any uneven wear as well as the size, brand, load and speed rating, type (summer, winter, A/S) as you don’t want to lay out $600 a short time after the car purchase. Just another item, check for curb rash on the wheels. Mine had 2 wheels that were scuffed so I had the dealer swap a pristine set from another car on their lot.

that's bs lol, is only a 8' screen on the TL period. I can show you a customized radio for the TL with some real navi and HD dvd with carbon fiber and everything adjusted perfectly in which it can only be done for about $700. I will try to get pictures of this base TL and it actually looks nice. Now my TL's interior looks way better and sexier than most of the TL w/ Navi i've seen around my area. Everyone's got a different taste so i suggest we should just let the dude decide what would be best for him. Why waste money on something that may not be that efficient for you when you can get something with way better quality for less money? So what if you have to take it off your windshield once in a while but it works lol.

Does the 700 dollar unit have a backup camera? Does it integrate the cars functions? Does it have satellite radio? Does it have voice command interface? Real time traffic updates?

I highly doubt it for a 2008 CPO with less than 35k miles:
Manheim Index Hits Record High in April
Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) rose 1.9% in April and pushed the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to a record high of 126.6. Over the past year, adjusted wholesale prices have risen 4.9%.
Lower wholesale supplies and higher retail demand continue to be the driving forces behind strong used vehicle residuals. In addition, wholesale used vehicle prices are also now being supported by the new vehicle market’s tight inventories, steady demand, and higher net transaction prices.
