You CAN get WDP with EBONY interior! I was looking to see what the new colors were and totally missed it. That combo should look great...

2006 TL changes
Since its groundbreaking redesign in 2004, the Acura TL has solidified its place as both the top selling Acura and best-selling luxury sedan in the country. The TL comes equipped with a 3.2-liter, VTEC V-6 engine, a drive-by-wire throttle system, and an available close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with limited slip differential. For 2006, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System is added to the TL’s already long list of standard safety features as are two new exterior colors.
* Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
* Revised engine management system and steering angle sensor logic help reduce torque steer
* New Colors:
o Royal Blue Pearl replaces Abyss Blue Pearl
o Alabaster Silver Metallic replaces Satin Silver Metallic
o Deep Green Pearl discontinued
New horsepower/torque ratings: 258 horsepower SAE net (Rev 8/04) at 6200 rpm, 233 lbs-ft. of torque SAE net (Rev 8/04) at 5000 rpm

I have not read the specifics but it seems to be related to the way they calculate the SAE HP and torque. There has been no decrease. It's just the way it's calculated. So it's going to affect the HP numbers across the entire line.

Yeah, there was an article in MT that talks about a revised way of calculating SAE net HP/TQ.
I'm more curious about this new engine management system and the steering angle logic... reduce torque steer, eh? We damn better be able to retrofit this. Retrofitting the TPMS would be sweet, too. I would rather have it show on the MID than have a separate aftermarket unit.
Thanks for posting the info.

Wait, I'm still confused...horsepower is the same?
And does anyone know if WDP will be available with Ebony interior.
I thought there was a minor facelift and this caused a discontinuation of the A-Spec kit.

The reason for the rated HP decrease is tha.t the testing method has been "more" standardized. Some manufacturers were having their motors tested with out all the ancillaries attached or with exhaust and intake systems that varied slightly from what would be in a production vehicle. I also heard of some "super slippery" oil being used on some occasions. It is not that
Acura has lost horsepower, the cars still have the same, only the numbers have changed to more accurately (!) report the true HP and torque. The Z06 Corvette's rating actually went up from
500hp to 505. Possibly Bill Clinton is on Honda's horsepwer reporting team.

l would imagine that the Revised engine management system and steering angle sensor logic help reduce torque steer feature would also reduce power somewhat.
I find it funny that there is a new standard way to calculate horsepower so the advertised HP is now less than the advertised hp in the 04 and 05 models. The torque is also lower. Maybe they changed the way they calculated it in the 04 and 05 models to show a bump and they never really had more than the 232 torque and 260 ponies that debuted in the 01 model.
So it is not that acura lost horsepower it is just that it was overstated is what they are saying.

Incredible, although I have to say I'm not surprised that the HP has been overstated. The TL, although I love it, never really FELT like 270 HP to me. The torque is completely believable as well.
I bet retrofitting the TP montitor, engine mgmt system and tire agle sensors will be a complete and utter BITCH to retrofit. I hope I am proven wrong. But hey, someone retrovitted factory NAV in an non-NAV TL so anything is possible.

For the 2006 model year, all Acura horsepower and torque specifications have been updated to reflect revised Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1349 (Rev 8/04) net calculations that went into effect in January of 2005. These new calculations reflect a number of significant changes in the way horsepower and torque are measured and may cause SAE net horsepower and torque totals published in 2006 media materials to differ from the figures published in previous years. To avoid confusion, all 2006 Acura press materials will specify “SAE net (Rev 8/04”) after all horsepower and torque figures to denote adherence to the new standards.
