I just picked up a set of duramax C-max gold brake pads at autozone. For 60 bucks, REAL lifetime warranty (guys said you can bring them worn to the shims and they'll give you new ones as long as you own the car) and less friggin brake dust (i've never had rims look dirty after a day of driving after cleaning the car!), I'm willing to give it a try. Make sure the get the Manual ones...they are the Brembo ones! Heard pretty good reviews on here about them. Put a lot of the brake quiet stuff on the back and you should be in business. I'll probably be tackling this in the next few weeks.

I take it if the pedal starts wobbling a bit when braking it is an early sign the pads need to be replaced? either way, in for A1 service today and waiting to see what they say.

Yes. It's a sign. If the "wobble" is very light, check that the lug nuts are tightened to the proper torque (80 Ft/Lbs). If too tight, they make the problem worse. Tightened correctly you can prolong the life of your brakes.

I'm going to stick with the OEM. What is consider a good price range and what sites did you guys purchase your brakes from?
If you go the the stealership, front pads will run you anywhere from $170-$200, depending on the stealership. Labor will be $200. This includes turning the rotors. If the stealership quotes you around $400, your in the clear.

If you buy the pads on your own, they're around $150, and labor is free. But you won't get your rotors turned.

With the OEM rotors, the OEM pads are the best match. You can go with others, but I don't recommend it.

They said it could be because of a hot spot on the rotor and said resurfacing would probably fix it. That said, my pads are still at 6mm in the front, so at 21,000 miles, I am still ok. Kind of suprised actually. I figured since I stupidly mentioned feeling that wobble they would suggest new pads and resurfacing the rotors and I'd be out 500 bucks, but apparently, all is well and I haven't really noticed the wobble since.

Are you trying to say, that if I buy Duramx C-max Gold brake pads from Autozone, and whenever they wore out, I can bring it back, and they'll give you a new pair of pads?

Is that right?

That's like no need to buy new pads for life?

I went to All Tire in Arcadia, they shop owner gave me a pretty good deal, ceramic pads I think it was Akebono or something. And resurface the rotors, all for less than 150.

And I've asked him to rotate my tires and check the Nitros level.

i have around 11k miles on my car. if i changed the pads (not now, when the time comes), i wont have to resurface the rotors or do anything to them?

all i would have to do is literally swap out the brake pads?

That is the way to go if you can. It is what I did and it has worked out fine.

If there is no sign of "warped" rotors, do not re-surface them. Removal of rotor material means they won't dissapate heat as well, which increased the liklihood of "warping".

Hit the brakes at various (slow/moderate) speeds and with various pressure (nice & easy to panic). Allow plenty of time in between - you're not trying to heat the brakes up, just feeling how the pad grabs/holds the rotor in a few different conditions.

Make sure the car brakes in a straight line & feel for "wobble" through the pedal and steering wheel. If the is no "wobble" or very little, then your rotors are probably OK.

Any noob can change the Brembo pads. There are couple of really good DIY's here and Service Manual Scans. Replacing the spring clip takes a little practice, but overall the process is VERY easy.

At 26,500 now...some noticable squeaking fairly constantly, but not all the time, no wobble present. Possibly time for brakes when I take it in for the next service, probably in 3-4 weeks? Also, when should I think about replacing the stock tires?

I'm @ 17600 type s too and noticing slight noise. I'm buying the brembo pads from eBay $165 for the set, that's the best price I found. I'm still deciding where to take my car. Fresno Acura wanted $273 for the labor (install the pads and resurface the rotors).
I also called Honda North and they wanted $208 for Labor, i still gotta call Clawson honda and Selma Honda and see where's the best deal
I asked them how much was the transmission service(drain&refill) @ Fresno Acura was $99.95 + tax and @ Honda North it was $125.99, i thought at first that acura was going to be more expensive for this service

dude...trust me, with a couple of cheap tools and some guidance you can DEFINITELY do both those things yourself.
Check out CMAX gold from duralast...lots of people on here rave about them including me...stops great, less dust and will only have spent 60 bucks for my front pads forEVER! Autozone will give me free ones even when they wear down. That's just their pad policy. IMO resurfacing is overrated.

if you look at your brembo's...there are two pins...you take a small punch and knock them out...pull out your old pads, use a screwdriver to push the piston back in, put synthetic caliper grease on your new pads...slide them in and knock the pins back in. I shit you not I can change both my front pads in 15 min. or less. Brembos are the bomb.

For the tranny change...I found the info on acurazine...easier than changing oil even. There's a 3/8 socket square to the bolt for the transmission from underneath...open that and move the intake over a little...(I just used multiple extensions to get to the bolt on TOP of the tranny to refill) Long funnel and voila!

You just saved yourself over 300 bucks for something else.

I'm about to it 70k on my 04 6spd and haven't changed my pads or rotors once. I bought the car used with 38k on it, so I'm guessing they changed it then, but I dunno, cuz my brakes were squealing since I bought the car then. I took it in to Acura and they glazed the rotors, and it seemed to get a lil better, but I think it was just in my head. Lol. However, my braking doesn't seem compromised a bit. I don't drive the car hard. Maybe that's why?

Nope...tires are actually fine. I was thinking about getting the pads myself since I can get them cheaper than the dealer. Does that piss dealship shops off if I bring the pads to them and just ask for the labor?

By comparison, the rears had like 10/32nds left. He said the stock pads alone cost $195 a set (both corners), plus labor.

I've read on this forum that there are cheaper alternatives to the oem pads and that replacing the pads are very easy and quick (there calipers are designed for that).

So can anyone recommend an inexpensive pad for the Brembos that does not create a lot of brake dust?

Thanks,
