03TL-S VS 96 Maxima

This happened on Hillside ave from 130st to all the way up to lefferts blvd ( For all you newyork guys) First i was at the signal and on the right was this really beautiful and shiny looking Black 96 Maxima, it was Manual because he was going back. As soon as the right turns green he Punches it but the next signal was Red so he didnt go that far, So i thought to see what he can do on this Maxima .. As soon as the light turns Green we both Hit it. For first Two Gears, he Stayed with me and on the 3rd, i pulled half a car on him. thats when Lefferts BLVD came ... I mean i thought i could take him right off the line But I knew he had something in his car. He didnt have a fart can but had a nice exhaust system, The car was really nice looking. I asked him on the signal what model it was and he told me 96, i didnt have chance to ask him what he got in his car cause i think 96 Maxima has 190HP STOCK, Even if he had Manual, how come he kept up with me until 3rd Gear?

yea the driving skill can make good difference. The other day I was driving my '95 Infiniti G20 5spd MT and I and that Toyota Avalon driver took off from the light like mad. I was able to keep up with him with my shifting/clutching skills! I fell behind by a half car length at 60+ mph. He thought he was gonna smoke me but obviously that didn't happen.... hehe

maximas MT are pretty fast. I drove an AT one (96 or 97 model) before and it was full of bottom end torque.

I had a 98 Maxima just before my 02 TL-S. The MT are suppose to run around 6.6-6.8, 0-60 times, about .5 to .75 seconds faster than the AT. They are nice from light-to-light and around the city, but no match for the VTEC on the highway. At least in mine, I always thought it was running out of steam on the highway. It reminds me a little bit like our 4th-gear on the TL-S. The Max is a nice car, though.

yea, 6.6 -6.8s, that's not a whole lof of difference compared with 6.2 of the TL-S. I mean if you didn't brake torque (not sure if that's the right term) the TL, and didn't gate shift at the right moment, then the gap wouldn't be that big. And it sounded like that maxima was slightly modded too (I/H/E/P?), so it all adds up to the equation here.
