How difficult to replace shocks??

I've got a 2005 TL with 33,000 miles. I think the shocks suck.

How difficult is it to replace the shocks in the front and rear?

That's basically what the TL has. Otherwise known as struts. As for the original question, all 4 corners have struts on the TL thus require more work/special tools to replace just the shock portion. I'm not even sure if the inner "shock" of the strut can be replaced. May involve changing the entire strut assembly and then just swap the coils from old to new etc..

If you never done ANY suspension work before, dont start now...unless you have some knowledge on suspension parts. You just have to take out the struts which involves taking out the rear seats to access the strut mount bolts for the rear struts, and place them in a Spring Compressor, loosen the nut on top of the strut, and swap it for a new one...

of course you can just replace the shocks. all you need is a spring compressor so you can unbolt the tops.

Yes, the strut assembly - As stated in my last sentence.

- Though not many folks have a "proper" spring compressor lying around. I've seen two individuals "taken", as in carried away to the hospital due to inexperience and attempting to "back-yard-mechanic" a coil over/strut swap job.. They hit the ground before the spring did... Another vehicle near-by was also damaged from the then rogue spring…
It was one of those "self-critiquing" moments for the two...

Bottom line, with most mechanical jobs, if you have the right tools and knowledge to use them, the job itself can be relatively easy.

I put in my Aspec coilovers myself .. took me a good eight hours for all four corners.

Need to use a jack to raise the rear suspension elements when inserting or removing the existing coilover.

the fronts are indeed a breeze.
