(((Brake))) sensor
(((Brake))) sensor
I noticed something weird last few days , the Brake sensor would go off but nothing was in the road, I was going maybe 40-45 MPH.. anyone else have this happen to them?
come to think about it, something else happen the other day... the NAV/ Radio / climate visual controls etc wasn't able to come on, it wasn't until I turned the car off for a 5 min gap and cut it back on was when it all came back up normal
I'm ready to drop if off to the dealer but all seems normal and they'll probably look at me like I'm crazy

I've had the FCW and the front / rear sensors go off for no reason. It happens very rarely and I just shrug it off as something small in the air (bug, debris, etc?) causing a false trigger.
When I test drove an RLX a few months ago the brake sensor also went off for no apparent reason. The salesman told me that it was picking up the trees in the center median of the road. Maybe yours was reading something like that as well.
Once it was an F250 approaching an oblique intersection too quickly.
Another time it was a deer running onto the road. Although I'm sure you're going to find this hard to believe, it helped me avoid the deer, which was hit by a car in the opposing lane after I'd avoided it.

I find most of these radar sensing devices a quandary. I like the intent. But they are intended to aide the driver...and that is the most difficult parameter to program. Too often the driver does not understand to what the system is alerting.
When I drove an RL with radar features, I found them distracting. When they alerted for no apparent reason, THAT distracted me more than simply paying attention to my driving. I had several seconds of 'what was that for?' and 'why did that go off?' which may have been more dangerous to my driving.
They also sense something...but what? A car? debris? pedestrian? moose? squirrel? bug??? The systems are simply not that sophisticated and I would think the driver would soon treat them as we treat a sounding car alarm. Dismiss it.
Yesterday I was riding with my brother in law in his Lexus. It is one of the 2 seasonal outbreaks of 'love bugs' here in Florida. They swarm spring and fall, mate while flying and splatter your car with acidic, paint etching guts. The Lexus beeped from the bugs. The Lexus beeped from the birds swooping in the cars path picking off bugs. The Lexus beeped when turkey vultures were snacking on road kill. The Lexus beeped when people changed lanes with inches of room (everyday occurrence here). The Lexus beeped when a plastic bag blew across the road. I think the Lexus beeped when I silently farted.
I finally screamed for him to shut the F'n thing off! His response was... 'Wha?'

I wouldn't mind having the adaptive cruise control (drove both Cadenza and Avalon with this feature - very nice) or the blind spot monitor but could live without the brake sensor because of the false readings they seem to tend to give. I agree with Tampa that they could be more distracting than simply being an alert driver.

It is a skill I learned when working with blind children. They will dime you out in a heartbeat.
It is pretty unnatural for men. We take pride in our emissions. On a road trip across the Patagonian pampas with an Argentine buddy, he taught me to play 'Name that Tune', the Flatulence Edition.
