Where Is Your E-Z Pass?

Do you put it in the centre under the cameras and you know it doesn't interfere with anything?

Or do you break down and put it on the starboard side of the camera modules off of the antennas and away from a risk of interfering with cameras?

If you have it off to the right, does it perform well 100% of the time?

:-)

Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

And your car has LKAS?

That's what I'm worried about, that the cameras are a kind of fish-eye lens and I'd be in the way even though it's below them.

I cannot bear the thought of ruining the look of my car by sticking it on the windshield, and so I have always kept it in the door pocket and thrown it up on the dash when I needed it. I guess if I had to use it daily, which I don't, I would break down and attach it to the windshield. Maybe. Sorry, I know that's of no help to you, George. But I can get away with this because I only use it once or twice a week. =)

As I noted in an earlier post on another thread, I also don't want a radar detector on my dashboard, and so I have an installed K40. I guess I'm an auto-purist!

I have it on the passenger side of the rearview mirror, right after the "pebble tint" ends. LKAS, and E-Z Pass work 100% of the time. I can't see it from the drivers seat.....

My car is Advance. Have not had any issues with my white box EZ Pass transponder and the LKAS.

Today while LKAS was on, I put my iPhone up where the E-Z Pass would be against the underside of the camera housing, and LKAS was lost immediately.

It'd come back on every time I removed the iPhone.

I dunno... I think for me it might be safer elsewhere.

I suspect that after my experiment today, that's where I'm going to put it.

I know it is a little out of place there, but at least it does not interfere with anything. On the other hand i can't see it, so out of site out of mind. I don't think that will hold true for you George, since you are taller than me......your seat must me further back, so it will be visible to you.....

I have it on the passenger side of the rearview mirror, next to the area where the tint. I do have the LKAS, and E-Z Pass work 100% of the time. I made sure that I can't see it from the drivers seat while driving.....

Yes, in fact, I can see it. :-) But I'm not usually looking over there, and it seems to work okay so I'll just leave it there for the time being.

They offered me a weird one that fastens to the license plate of the car. (We have front plates in Virginia.)

I declined because I can just imagine somebody stealing it or somebody thinking that it's something that it's not.

Isn't Virginia the only state in the Union to ban "something that it's not"s? Or did you mean a deer detector? Ha!

It can be a bit odd, yes.

But I see you live in a Commonwealth yourself, so I wouldn't throw stones.

:-)

Virginia is the only one that was a Dominion, having resisted the Protectorate all through the Interregnum.

So for many reasons, yes, they think they are very special!

The iPhone is an active transmitter, the EZ-Pass is a passive RFID device. You may not have problem with it there. I don't have the 'box' EZ-PASS, mine is a thin sticker. But even if it does not respond back to the toll booth, it takes a pic of my license plate and I still get properly charged. I even added my wifes car to my account and it will properly charge her without a tag on her car at all.

One unconventional spot to try is the moon roof. If it fits with the cover closed, try it there.

Yes, under the tint.

I decided to check my state's EZ Pass web site to be sure my trips are all registering. I have never checked this site. They are all registering plus a plate scan in southern New Jersey on June 7th. The funny thing about that one is that my car was in an airport valet lot in Connecticut on that date while I was in California.

A number of possible options come to mind. I have asked the state DOT if they can get a copy of the photo of the plate scan.

Oh, now, that's just great.

Now we're all paranoid.

I have mine to the right of the rear view mirror.

I got one of the new low profile ez-pass units and bought black spray-on plastidip and painted it. Now from the outside you can't really see it, and from the inside the black blends in more.

Never had an issue with it. Its also directly below the auto-start antenna and its never given me a problem.

I didn't check it when I dropped it off, but looking at it now, it is higher than my monthly average by enough for a round trip from Connecticut to Atlantic City. I also noticed earlier that all my change was missing from the center console. I figured someone at the parking lot took it. Maybe they used it on the Garden State to avoid the EZ pass scanners, but screwed up on the connector to Atlantic City or maybe there is no change basket there resulting in a plate scan.

I have a friend who had his Cadillac ' rented' from a valet lot in NYC. He did check the mileage when he dropped it off. He got the police involved.

I did speak with my DOT. They are going to try to get the photo scan from NJ.

This is getting interesting !

I was afraid to put it on the pebble tint. I don't use broadcast except for the news/weather station when I'm out in rush hour, but I still didn't want to run the risk of messing up reception.
