noise from the car
noise from the car
2018 RLX SH.
I hear the noise mainly in a quite area, when I release the break or hold it down not all the way I hear noise from the front like a concert.
is it typical to RLX Hybrid?

I have the same low speed EV UFO whirling sound from my 19 MDX hybrid. Not sure why Acura picked such an un-natural sound for a moving vehicle compared to a simulated engine noise? I've surprised a few folks sneaking up on them that didn't recognize sound; but, was startled when a 7 passenger SUV appear beside them. I would rather have the option of low speed noise like the 3.5L MDX/RLX sound or the NSX in Sport+ mode speeding around Laguna Seca Raceway!
Do US models have the button to disable the whirly-bird sound, or do only the Canadian models have this?
My start up routine consists of pushing that button as soon as I start the car as I can’t stand it. Too bad it resets every time the car turns off. I know it’s for pedestrian safety and all, but I don’t make it a standard practice to hunt unsuspecting people in parking lots.

A friend has a Honda Insight and it is the weirdest sound I've ever heard. I'm with you - Honda could have picked something better.
Purely cosmetic to me. If it was an entire row of blanks, then I might have a concern. Who is seeing those buttons anyway? And better yet, it must not have mattered too much cosmetically. Each person who owns one of these rides, still purchased the vehicle. Just saying.
YUP, I agree with mrgold. Acura cheap out on way too much stuff on this car. Active dampers and auto rear climate controls would make the RLX from Great to Perfect. I drove wife's MDX in Sport mode this weekend, then my RLX back-to-back. The differences in stiffness is very apparent. But then again the MDX all of the sudden feels very underpowered to me now that I'm spoiled by the RLX crazy fast acceleration, even wife mentioned it.
Its the low center of gravity of the EV components mounted under the MDX, lighter 3.0L up front, and electronic dampers that make the MDX handle so well. Adding performance tires to the MDX hybrid might bump it up another level. The MDX does feel under powered compared to the RLX and the MDX runs out of power at hwy speeds. Even the MDX EV mode doesn't engage as often or as long compared to the RLX on the same routes. I wouldn't mind the lower hp/tq in my MDX if I got the same mpgs as the RLX; but, I'm always 2-4 combined mpgs lower in the MDX on the same routes. I don't think I get the full 321hp/289tq at +75 mph hwy speeds compared to the RLX.
The 3.5L RLX hybrid powertrain is figgin' good! Acura could have used the 3.0L hybrid power train in the +18 RLX tech and the 3.5L hybrid for the Adv version.

If Acura had already done the engineering for the headlight washers etc for the Canadian (and likely Japanese) version of the RLX and spec'd out the parts and had a spot in the assembly line, then I fail to understand why they would cheap out on adding these to the US version. I suspect that some bean counter within Honda did the math on how many US models are sold in snowy areas and came to the conclusion that they weren't necessary. In making that decision, Honda risks their reputation in the lucrative upscale market. Maybe the bean counters are thinking of the economics of a Civic or CRV in volume and pricing and not the $65000 RLX Sport Hybrid that sells in the hundreds yearly. My advice to Honda/Acura... if you want to run with the big dogs, you can't pee like a puppy.
