Brake squeal

Hi there, new member here from Montreal, Canada with a pearl white A-Spec!

May car have 2500 kms and brake already squeal when they are cold and/or wet for the first 4-5 stops...

Anyone have this issue? I suppose that it will go away and it is the new brakes that are not totally "beak-in"...?

Yes I've noticed this on cold mornings with condensation on the rotors. Don't worry about it.

I get it too. Always first thing in the morning after leaving the driveway. Stops after a couple of traffic lights.

Yes. It's almost certainly flash rust on the rotors from moisture and/or prolonged disuse. All brakes "grind" a bit as they wear it off in the first few stops. The noise is just a bit high pitched on 2019 RDX. It's normal and harmless.

Same here, goes away after braking a few times. Made a thread about this in the main forum to see how common the issue is, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. Had the dealer look at the brakes over the weekend, they stated it was normal. They took apart the calipers and cleaned and sanded down the rotors, didn't really make much of a difference.

We are now experiencing the issue and it's not a wet/rust issue. Wife is going to take it in but it has a squeal sound at times and grinding at others. Brakes feel fine and it's just the noise that comes and goes after several miles of driving.

Ok a little update on this, the temperature is dropping here in quebec, so my brake are squealing like crazy when they are cold.... I spoke to my dealer this morning and the service manager told me that I am not the only one complaining about this, Acura is aware of the problem and they are worling on a fix. Told me that should be having a service bulletin with a fix in a few months, probably with my 1st service...
we will be waiting....

I have heard this too now that mornings are cold. I’ll watch for that TSB.

Yeah now that the temperature is dropping here on the East Coast, the brakes are squealing real loud after the brakes cool down. So it's either first thing in the morning, or simply parking long enough for the pads/rotors to be cold.

Depending on whether or not Honda/Acura is going to release a TSB for this, I may just go and replace the brake pads with a aftermarket set. I park inside a parking garage for work and it's embarrassing for a brand new vehicle to have squeaky brakes that squeal through the entire parking structure.

I think it is the pads and going aftermarket may just be the trick. I assume that Acura will release an updated pad with a different material or composition. I am in FL and have not experienced this at all...most likely due to the warmer weather. If anyone does go aftermarket, please post the results as it cannot be the rotors and all that makes sense is the pads as @fr4c mentioned above.

Will likely "upgrade" once StopTech or Hawk comes out with pads for the 2019 RDX. Will most likely upgrade to SS brake lines as well. The stock brakes on this car is the only complaint I have so far, outside of this squeal.

I have a 2020 RDX Tech pkg. I too am having a similar issue with the brakes. Almost immediately after purchase they began to feel as if they were grinding at the left front whenever they were damp or cold. It was intermittent, and I assumed it to be dirt or break-in period. It goes away fro awhile, and just when you think it's resolved itself, it returns. I am scheduled for a service appt. on Tues. Was just wondering if anyone else who's had this problem KNOWS what the fix is and is willing to share it. I'd like to be armed with an education when I speak to the service manager. Thanks!

Good to see I'm not the only one who still has the brake squealing after having the front rotors replaced a month ago. I purposely try to get the rotors warm quickly to avoid the embarrassing noise! Will be in touch with my dealer.

I've had the pads and rotors replaced on my '19 Aspec twice. Once before the update (19-053) and once after. Unfortunately, the squealing returned a couple of weeks after each repair. In addition, I now have a whir or rubbing sound under moderate braking. So I took the vehicle back to the dealership on Friday to have the issue looked at again. They confirmed the squeal and whirring noises but stated that there were no other fixes available. They opened a ticket with the Acura Tech/Engineering team and said that Acura was aware of the continued noises after the last TSB update. I was told to check back in a few months....

At this point, I'm hoping that the noises go away when the weather warms up. Worst case scenario? I eventually have the brakes replaced with aftermarket performance parts.

I had the "whirring"/rubbing noise on my '20 Advance... that was taken care of when they replaced the front rotors a few weeks ago. I still have a squealing sound when the car sits for a while, but it goes away after braking a few times. The service guy at the dealership said "it's normal", but he noted it for the service adviser I was scheduled with to look at this morning (I just wanted it documented I had brought it in for it). (Also looking at some other items but that's for a different thread I guess).

I have it now. It's annoying but I do not believe it is a safety issue. It's only there on gentle brake application and 4-5 stops - it's gone.

TSB 19-053 - Front and/or Rear Brakes Squeal When Applied at Low Speeds was revised. See the 2019 and 2020 TSB threads for details.

Showed the service dept the revised TSB and they are going to change my rotors and pads again on the front. Hopefully this revised TSB solves the squealing issue. If not I’m going with composite pads.

Be aware that YMMV with the updated TSB. I live in a major metro area and I called my dealer today to see about the updated TSB 19-053 and they said they had not been informed of any fix and then they checked the dealer portal and said they saw no updated TSB there either and that is where it would be. Shrug. So I guess I'll have to wait a while. I don't understand though, I would imagine all dealers get this information at the same time. Unlike the above poster, they say they cannot do any fix until they have the information themselves, I can't just hand them the print off from this site, which I guess fair enough. The problem doesn't happen in warm weather anyway so no need for me to go all Kevin on them about it.
