Brake Squeal?

Anyone else hearing exsessive brake noise like a high pitched squeal? It is really anyoning. When i brought it into the dealer yesterday i asked them to take a look at it.. might of been just dirt on the pads. They called me and said that there was a TSB issued for this and that they needed to order some special pads to fix it. I have a appointment for next week but i dont think i can put up with the sound until then.. 50k car and i have to deal with a loud brake Squeal? Yuk!

The $90k Porsche I drove this past weekend had squealing brakes too.

from what I have read certain types of break squeal arent a bad thing and can happen when some parts are perfectly lined up or something. I dunno though. I know very little on brakes.

Mine only have a high pitched squeal when coming to a complete stop by slowly using the pedal and even then it isnt like a major thing or anything. Oh and in the winter if they are wet they squeal like crazy for the first 5-10 mins of use.

This happens to quite a number of automobiles with multiple piston brakes. Our MB S500 had the most annoying squeal that the dealership could never get rid of. The AP racing pistons I had on my S2000 also squealed and squeaked at low speeds, especially when cold.
I'll be bringing in our RL to see if the dealer can get rid of the squeak/squeal, but I won't be too surprised if they cant.

My service manager tells me that they replace both the pads and the rotors with redesigned parts to eliminate the squeal. Apparently this has been a problem with each new model from Acura and they successfully have eliminated it on other models in the first year of production.

If you think you are irritated, spend an hour in the service bay and listen to all the squealing. I am sure that the service departments want to get rid of it more than you do. They have a very vested interest. I know that my service department wants to do mine as soon as I can get it into them.

Just for the record, what little brake squeal I have heard on my RL is nothing compared to the grinding and squealing from the completely stock Brembos on my STI -- and I thought the STI's brakes were way quieter than the Wilwood kit I had on my WRX before that. Those sounded like the brakes on a garbage truck. It is my understanding that all performance brakes make some noise from time to time. Personally, I can learn to live with some noise in return for great stopping power.
