Windshield Wiper Chatter

Hi all,

I just got caught in my first downpour in the 21’ RDX Aspec, and I couldn’t believe how horribly my windershield wiper blades were chattering and streaking across the windshield. Is this a common problem on the RDX’s? Is there anyway to remedy this problem myself?

Thanks!

Replace the wiper blades or at least the refills. They're shot.

Rain-X helps too.

Do a very good cleaning of the windshield. Sometimes they can have a chemical film on them. Then, just for fun, take a sharp knife, like a box cutter and holding it at a right angle to the contact surface of the wiper blade, clean the blade. This may, or may not help but its worth a try. My 2019 Advance still has the original wiper blades on it and they run smooth as silk. BUT, I keep it in the garage when its not being driven.

Another trick is to clay bar the windshield (if you know how). I do agree that Bosch Icons are great all year wiper blades. I use them as winter blades.

Are you saying that wipers on brand new RDX need to be replaced?

I would run a damp microfiber along the blades. Maybe some residue or some debris got caught in them? There’s no way new wiper blades should be shot, even if you park it in the blazing sun every day.

Mine are a little over two years old and work fantastically. Quiet and wipe completely. I was actually quite impressed with how well they work.

going two steps further; after the clay bar, one can use rain-x(the little yellow bottle) to keep the windshield slick and hydrophobic.

I go the extra mile and use a LSP (last step product) like a sealant. this last go around, I used a ceramic coating to coat the windshield.

water just sheds off the glass!

I put Collinite 845 on my windshield since I use it on the rest of the car. On the Highway, I don’t even have to use my wipers. On slower local roads where I’m stuck behind someone I’ll have to flick them on. I’m sure ceramic works even better.
