My wife and I went shopping and came back to this. Blessed to have not been in it. They got the driver, he did stop. They are charging him with reckless driving. My tires were about 1/2 inch from the curb, he had no argument to give. Any advice on dealing with the repairs is appreciated. I had it towed to our Acura/Honda Body shop. They have done great work before.
I’m glad no one was hurt! I’m thinking they may total it. There’s definitely significant damage to the rear-end! I imagine the driver was going well above the posted speed limit!
Did the driver happen to be intoxicated when they caught him/her?
He did not appear to be. He is being charged, they have a video from a street cam they are going to use against him. I think a witness said no break lights.

aww man... good luck with the repairs. i was rear-ended last November, my RDX has been sitting in the autobody shop since, waiting for parts. no ETA from Acura whatsoever & they only put out a global request for parts after i kicked up a fuss in April. while i get there's a parts shortage and all, a 6 month wait (waiting) is absolutely ridiculous.

were you able to get a rental car paid by insurance while waiting? Usually rentals have time limits like 30days. Not sure what happens in this situation?

That is super ridiculous. 6+ month wait to get your vehicle fixed and just rotting at the body shop. I bet you are super frustrated. I'd be S.O.L. as I only have the RDX as my singular vehicle now.
Maybe the vehicle is worth more if they totaled it and parted out all the good parts left and the ones on super long lead times. This is where the sum of the parts are worth much more than the completed vehicle.
I'm heading out on vacation so I skipped a rental for now. I hope by the time I get back they have it all figured out. I believe since the other driver is at fault I am not limited on rental car days. But I will find out once the insurance companies fight it out. In the meantime I don't mind Uber.

i'm located in BC, Canada and our (only) insurance provider is unsympathetic about the situation citing that the chip/part shortage is putting everyone on the same boat. thankfully, i got a courtesy car from the auto repair shop and has been driving it since.

indeed super frustrated. not so much of the chip/part shortage but the lack of response on lead time and next steps from Acura. meanwhile, i see them crank out new vehicles like the 2022 rdx and wonder why they can't spare me a part...
if anyone has data or insights to share on wait times and part availability, i'm all ears. Acura is not being transparent about how badly affected they are with this situation.

This 'availability' of stuff is getting pretty tough. A part on our oven broke...part was unavailable, so we ordered a new oven....incredibly, 8-10 month lead time. As for your Acura, I have heard this auto part shortage thing a few times now. Hope the best for you. I can't imagine what an extended wait time for parts, and the a loss of my car, would be like.
I feel your pain. In August of last year my 2020 RDX was hit by a school bus while I was stopped at a traffic signal. There was extensive upper front end damage. Frankly, I thought the car would be totaled, but it was not. There was almost $20,000 worth of damage. After 4 months and 1 day, the week of Christmas, I got my car back. The delay was getting parts. The school's insurance company continued for furnish me with a rent car during the repair, so I was not out of transportation. Glad your family was not injured and heres hoping the repairs can happen quickly.
Update- it took a long time but finally got two estimates one from the Reckless Driver’s company SafeCo and my company which is Geico. They both came in about the same but if I choose SafeCo I don’t have the deductible to deal with plus the rental car should be unlimited. So the auto body shop which is owned by our Acura dealer believes there’s probably a lot of suspension and alignment issues that could even make the car unrepairable. So their first order of busines is to get the new rims and tires they need then start the suspension analysis. So it’s a tough call what’s going to happen. I almost wish it would be totaled! I don’t want to end up with a car with possible chronic issues. But I am grateful no one was hurt. They moved the car today into the shop to start the suspension work. I will keep everyone updated.

thanks for the update. It’s definitely a pain to have a car that is teetering between repairable and being totaled. In an irony, my 2018 Accord Touring was totaled in Oct 2021, and that payout helped get me in my 2022 RDX.
Update~ So 6 weeks since the last update. They have not been able to work on the car at all. They are telling me to prepare for about 3-4 more months. Staffing issues. They told me that they need to peel off the body damage to see if there is more damage behind it. They said that could add thousands to the repair. They also still have not been able to get it aligned. This is going to cost the insurance company so much money. The rental car is costing them 120 per day. Since it wasn't my fault the reckless drivers insurance company has to pay for the rental. I am just praying we don't go through all of this then they total it. It will probably take months to get a new one. Frustrating, but grateful I was not in the car and got injured! Trying to see the bright side!
so in case anyone is interested, i was rear-ended last November and been waiting for parts to fix the car. i'm glad to report back that AFTER 10 MONTHS, i can finally drive my rdx again... holy moly.
discussed compensation with Acura Canada and they offered me a measly $500 service credit to make up for it. dealership wanted to get me into the 2022 model but after looking at the specs and pricing, couldn't justify the 10k price hike with little to no upgrades. this whole acura experience has left me a bad taste. the car itself is fine but good God, the customer service is atrocious. i'd be hesitant to get another acura after this.
Oh Man! Mine still is not complete. So sorry you had to go through this. Do you have any before and after pictures? Are you happy with the outcome?

car that rammed into me from the back dented hood, front cam under the badge is gone (this was the back ordered part with no ETA) back sensors are gone, bumper warped and the trunk slanted. the whole back had to be replaced
here are the photos of the damage (nothing as serious as yours hahaha). essentially the whole front and back end was replaced and i'm really happy with the repair work, the autobody shop went above and beyond their call. i was about to ask for a write off at 8 months, given the insurer had no idea when my car can be back on the road. the shop took a porsche cam and wired it into my rdx. the insurer was reluctant to sign off on this but it was either that or pay me out. once the cam part came in, they swapped it out.
Thanks for sharing. I just passed the 6 month mark. The shop is telling me all that’s left is a parking brake relay switch. It’s been back ordered for months. I’m quite sure the insurance company of the driver who hit me are not well pleased. The rental car bill will be over 20k. The next few weeks will be interesting. Have a good week man, glad you have your rig back!

After contacting Acura corporate and finding the part they needed myself, I finally got the car back. They did do an amazing job on the body work and detailed it well. I had to bring it back in less than 24 hours because the speakers were popping! They replaced all 4 clips and it resolved the issue. My goodness, why they didn’t check that before they gave me the car!

CONGRATS! but gosh, a 9 month wait is painful. Did Acura corporate offer you any compensation for the delay? Do you plan to keep your car?
My gripe with corporate is they did absolutely NOTHING to help. No subsidy, reimbursement or any gesture of good will and you had to chase them for timely updates. They just sat on it.
