A little off topic. Canadians can buy the Apec for 54k taxes in. Converted to american its 41k usd. Our Aspec gets the power folding mirrors, heated steering wheel and spare tire.

It's usually Canada that gets the shitty end of the stick. I'm just rambling dont mind me.

I am bitterly jealous of you Canadians with your power folding mirrors. Can't believe Acura isn't doing this in the US.

Deal also included Spare Tire Kit worth 500 and 2 oil changes. Included conquest of 1K

I had a 2010 TL and went to a Lexus GS 350 which I still have with 90K miles. Had several posts on this forum in the past

Glad to be back!
44K out the door is pretty good....I can't get anywhere near that in the Northeast for an Aspec SHAWD. Enjoy

Or on the positive side, one less item that can fail down the road.

$38,623 sh-awd tech seems like a good deal. But with regular apr like 4%-5%? That's how they get your money back, unless you plan to have a lot for down payment and/or plan to pay it off early. If you can't negotiate much on the price, ask them to throw in some of accessories/add-ons: splash guards, all season floor mats, cargo net/cover, remote start with key fob, fog lights, puddle lights (welcome lights), running boards.

I was able to get the .9% financing for 5 years on my deal. I believe it runs through the end of year.

I took the $1,500 cash from Acura instead of the 0.9% rate. They gave me a 4.6% finance rate. I plan to pay the loan balance off after three months so the cash was more valuable to me. I showed this as line item 4 (finance cash in lieu of 0.9% - $1,500) in the deal overview. I was originally planning to wait until spring to buy but the financing cash pushed me over the top.

How much you borrowed?
some fun facts:
40k borrowed: 3 month interest rate at 4.5% $440
40k invested into CD earning 1%, $2000 interest earned.
so in 3 month your cash value is only $1060

Unless you have something against having loan, if you run the numbers, its better to take 0.9% and keep your cash invested, even if you have a lot of cash savings. They attach 3 month clause to make sure they get at least $500 in interest out of you, so you getting only $1000 cash... and meanwhile cash that can be earning interest in bank has to be pulled out.

There is a little flaw in your analysis. Using your assumptions, the borrowed calculation is correct. However, for the invested calculation the $40K invested for three months at 1% is only worth $100. ($40K*.01/4). [1% rate per year / 3 mos/12 mos].

I ran the math for my scenario - only financed $28K since I put $10K down in cash plus a trade of $7,800. Assuming I pay the full loan balance of $28K at the end of three months, the interest paid to Acura over the three months if I'd taken the 0.9% interest rate would be $63. At 4.6%, again assuming I pay the full loan balance at the end of three months the interest paid to Acura is $322. Thus I am forgoing $259 ($322-$63) in return for the $1,500 that Acura provided to me. Thus I am better off overall taking the cash in lieu of the financing by $1,241 ($1,500-$259).

Technically it is even a little better since I will have made three loan payments prior to full payoff and the actual interest paid will be slightly lower each month since the full balance is not outstanding.

these are the facts:

40k in a bank earning 1.0% APY compound interest rate will earn $2040 in interest over 5 years.
car loan at 0.9% for 5yrs, total interest paid $922 over 5years.

with 4.6% you do get 1.5k discount, but after 3 month discount is smaller than 1.5k.

I understand what you are saying. My intention from the start was to pay it off after three months, regardless of finance rates. Thus I described the analysis accordingly.

cool, its personal choice. some people just dont like the debt, I dont have problems with debt that has a low financing cost. Its like a low interest mortgage, free money in a way.

most people assume that when the dealer suggests you make a few payments before you pay off the loan, that they will make the regular monthly payments and then the lump sum payoff at the end. That maximizes profit for the finance company.

I financed my car at 3.2% for 5 years. Less than a week after walking out of the dealership with my $1,500 savings for financing, I already paid off all but $50 more than my first monthly payment. So I’ll make one regular payment in Late December, then for the January payment I’ll owe about $65 to pay off the loan in full. The finance company will get well under $100 in interest from me.

What does the contract say, if you pay off your loan immediately, do they still charge you 3 month of interest?

I have been told in the USA, 1 can pay off ur loan at any time with no penalty. When I bought my volvo in March the sales manager asked me to keep the loan for 3 payments, then pay it off. He stated corporate gives them flack if people take out the loan and then immediately pay it off and it may affect the payback THEY (dealer) gets from the loan. He gave me a great deal, so I paid it off after 3 payments. He said once u get ur first statement, put down 99% of the loan..leave 3 payments worth. What I should have done is immediately contacted volvo and got my acct info and paid that 99% right away......but I waited.....and since I waited, I paid more in interest $$$$. What I found out what Volvo does.....since I put down 99% of the loan....my next payment wasnt unitl years down the road.....So I just made another payment and left like $1 in the account...then when the 3 months were up....paid it off....

They also say to wait 3 months to make sure all the paperwork is in order and the finance company has received your title. I don’t know if it’s true or not.

I only paid a bit of interest (think it was around $180) as I put a large amount down.....I initially left 3 months of payments on the balance as thats what the financial guy told me to do.....but with Volvo, since I had put down most of the $$$, it made my next payment date many years down the road.....So then I just left a $1 balance, until 3 months were up and paid it off....as thats what the agreed upon deal was....they wanted me to wait 3 months so they got their kick back $$$$. Maybe Acura does it different.....

I'm in the Bay Area and was given a "verbal" quote via phone and the sales person would not put it in writing. Basically said need to decide in the next day or two. Too good to be true and possibly shady?

2020 RDX A-Spec SH-AWD in Apex Blue with Ebony Leather
MSRP: $47,195
"Verbal" Price: $39,758.12 with loyalty discount of $2,250 for a 2015 TLX.
APR: 3.79%

All other Acura dealerships are offering $1,500 for loyalty rebate, so off the bat it seems sketch that he is offering so much for loyalty. This is the Hopkins Acura in Redwood City, CA.

So you got 61,200 - 53,400 = 7800 / 1.12 = 6964 (pretax) off? Or 4964 dealer discount before the 2K Acura cash?

Do you have loyalty? That's the number I'm going for but it's 300 under invoice?

Warning, rant:

I am frustrated with Acura. This is my first time considering purchasing a new car since 2005 and I've chosen Acura, yet dealerships do not want to talk to me.

I've probably spoken with 9-10 different Acura dealerships in Southern California.
I'm looking for a 2020 Advanced SH-AWD Modern Steel Metallic model.
I was hoping to take advantage of the 0.9% APR right now, however the OTD prices I'm getting are in the realm of $50K.
I've asked that the sales price goes down to 43,000 to 44,000 with an OTD price of ~46,000 or so.
I've even explained that if 0.9% won't work, what can be done at 3.9% ...and no one follows up with me.

At this point, I'm thinking that I'll just continue to save and jump over to a Model Y instead. All in all though, this has been a kind of frustrating experience with Acura. Dealerships just don't follow up with me and when I inquire about the exact model I want that is on their lot, they don't budge at all.

/end rant

can you explain this please......cannot we come out of acura finance right after first month , do we really need to stick for 3 months...do they have any caluse to stick for 3 months or 6 months?

First time car buyer and post. Thanks for all of your feedback, helped me gauge prices I'd be working with for this big purchase! Although, it seems that in California we may be on the steeper side. Nonetheless here is my breakdown for you all. I plan to post pictures of my new vehicle in the appropriate thread.

2020 SH-AWD A-Spec Package
Majestic Black Pearl/Red Interior
MSRP - $47,195
Dealer discount - $2,844
Holiday Cash Credit - $750
Subtotal: $43,601
----
$85 doc fee
$605.75 DMV fees
$4,332.51 tax
Added maintenance package $1,895 (4yr/60,000 miles) for my own peace of mind.
----
Total OTD: $50,519
SF Bay Area Purchase and approved 0.9% finance at 60 months.

For a first time car buyer would this have been an ideal vehicle to purchase? Maybe or maybe not, but at the end of the day I am living within my means and am thoroughly pleased with the vehicle. I was also very happy with the APR (after going through another dealer and credit union who denied or did not offer me a FAIR interest rate) I got approved for - being my first rodeo. I came into this purchase confidently with the research I've done on the RDX, help of your feedback within this forum, and the dealership I worked with.

Cheers!

Cheers!
Congrats! what's the holiday cash? i dont see that anywhere

Maybe it was the way my dealer worded this promotion, but it's basically Cash Credit. The Acura dealer I went to was able to give me an additional $750 towards my down payment, which I ultimately saw as another discount off MSRP.

I am not too sure what the qualifications are to be eligible for this Cash Credit and/or if it's based on specific Acura dealership locations. Sorry for the confusion, hope this clarifies it for you and other readers.
