Over The Air (OTA) Software Update D.1.2.1
#162
Yay! Installed it this morning. AA is here finally! Hallelujah!
But unfortunately not absolute positioning true touch interface for AA. I thought support for the rare AP TTI was responsible for the delay... that Google had to program the code to make it work from scratch.
Using a regular trackpad sucks and makes me appreciate the AP TTI even more.
Ah well, I guess I shouldn't be ungrateful. Hopefully they will figure out how to support AP TTI in the next update.
Google Maps is washed out for me too.

Mostly AA working for me with a Samsung s9+
What isn't: Waze ( I now run Waze on the phone, and Google maps on the RDX screen. I like the warnings Waze gives that Google does not, and so far I have found Waze's traffic info and predictions more accurate, by a little. I know they share data, but there are differences in route planning, eta, warnings, etc). But the RDX screen display is way better than looking at the phone. Hopefully, they will turn on Waze in the RDX screen
I seem to get disconnects, maybe once or twice a trip, when AA loses connection with the phone, and I get "AA unavailable". You then lose Google navigating, music (Spotify), etc. Unplugging the cable and re connecting fixes it, but you have to restart all. My cable is good, and it disconnects without touching anything, but I suppose the random disconnects could be cable related. I'll try another soon.
Took me a bit to realize that most settings for AA apps need to be input on the phone, not the RDX. I was looking for ways to save favorites in apps, but they get saved on the phone. Learning curve...

I posted a list of recommended cables. I had continuous disconnects and purchased the Anker cable and all is good now.
On the Play store there is a section for supported AA apps. I did find some posts on changing default from Google maps to Waze.
I will post that link later

I have an iPhone, so can't try this out.
Someone posted on YouTube how to get Waze on Android Auto on the RDX.
Hope it helps.

This might be true for older Android versions, but for Android10 there is no separate app that you can launch that loads with the settings menu as shown in this video. Therefore you cannot tap to get into developer mode.
I'm on Android 10 PixelXL2

I only got it working by changing a hidden setting within the Android Auto app on my phone. Afterwards Waze became available on the "Acura" . I can't blame Acura for Waze not working if Google was restricting it in their app.

My car gives me the usual System Updates false alarm, but I have received no notifications about this. If you check it will it come up without a message to the car?

Changing cable absolutely worked for me.

Alright I’ll eat some crow. I was using a brand new Monoprice Lightning cable and was getting the random crashes of CarPlay. I switched to an Apple branded cable that I knew was fairly new and it worked without crashing so far. Frustrating that a brand new cable from Monoprice couldn’t perform properly (it was a 4 ft. Cable so not overly long).

'20 RDX Adv, built 11/19
A couple of quick questions for you Midwestuser1... 1) Do you have a 2019 or a 2020 model? 2) Did the maps crash or or CarPlay as a whole?

Also things I’ve already done/tried: Remove my IPhone via Bluetooth and repaired it, removed CarPlay in the phone settings so it had to re-establish a fresh connection with the car.
The only logical conclusion I can draw is some sort of software glitch.

Any 2020 RDX owners having CarPlay issues/crashes AFTER installing the d.1.2.1 update? I am asking because I am trying to do some research before I possibly buy. Anything else I should look for or be concerned about while test driving? I've test driven the 2020 RDX Advance 2x do far at 2 different dealers within the past month.

My other car is a 2017 Chevy which has had AA since 2017. A lot of the problems being described here I also get in my Chevy. I get random errors, greyed out AA, and have to restart my phone usually once every 3 or 4 trips to get it to work.

I have 2019 Aspec. When the maps crash the Carplay is “greyed out” on the home screen of the infotainment system. Thus all things CarPlay crash including the music if I was playing any.
Also things I’ve already done/tried: Remove my IPhone via Bluetooth and repaired it, removed CarPlay in the phone settings so it had to re-establish a fresh connection with the car.

This test leads me to think that the Carplay crash happened within the phone versus the car as rebooting the phone re-established a live Carplay connection again. After this rebooting of my IPhone I continued using the Apple Maps via Carplay and it did NOT crash again for over 20 minutes of driving. Not sure what this examples shows but at least it is some additional data.

Since the 1.2.1 update I have not had issues. I was one of the more... vocal critics of this car for the past year I've had it too. Been in contact with Acura and the dealer for a while. Even started down the lemon law route (and got a nasty note back from Acura!) I got the RDX because at the time the competitor cars I was looking at did not offer CarPlay and I am big tech guy (Q3, Lexux NX) but I have to say, now that CarPlay works my opinion has completely changed. The engine, comfort, style, Honda reliability.. and now finally the tech works!

Burning Brakes
Thanks. I am just curious...wondering if some of the issues sometimes aren't related to an older phone (mine is a 6S+...so pretty old.) I have had issues (not since the update, at least yet) where I had to disconnect and restart my phone to get things working again.
