Over The Air (OTA) Software Update D.1.2.1

Had a hiccup! I was trying to use the Navigation from the phone (tried Google Maps & the Apple Maps) and both ended up crashing. The car screen would revert back to the screen like you had pushed the home button and the “car play” would be grayed out thus unable to reselect it. Playing my music was fine on all my tries with no skips. Thus it appears the Car play map function isn’t totally stable yet (unless I just have some weird issue that I’m alone with). FYI.

The last time I got that, I said to myself, oh yeah? And turned the dial anyway (that big-ass silver thing in the middle of the dash, ya can’t miss it). It did change the drive mode. So the drive mode was available, and the car lied to me about it. And I rarely use it anyway, so why would it lie? To me?

@Ludepower Do you have your wireless connection for updates turned on? I think it's turned off by default - I remember turning mine on when I first got the car.
My update downloaded on its own - it was just there when I turned on the car.

I even tried the USB method and that didn't work either. I have to go in for the A1 service next week.

But I confirmed that AcuraLink isn't enabled unless you consent to location sharing. And AFAIK it won't be active unless the vehicle and owner were subscribed at some point, which AFAIK is supposed to happen before the car leaves the dealer lot.
I wish I had paid more attention to the display while the D.1.2.1 update was downloading, because there was some weirdness and system hangs getting it started.
But I reminded myself that there is a menu in "System Update" to enable sources for automatic download of the updates. OTA and AHMOTA ( dealer WiFi ) are permanently enabled. I had my home WiFi and my Iphone enabled as well.
And just to finish looking for trouble, I checked the instructions for map updates, and the system still says to download them to a USB drive from an Acura website.

Don’t want to jinx anything but latest update appears to have fixed a number of annoying bugs with CarPlay and the Infotainment system in general. Will give it a few days - but seems WAY most stable and functions like I expected it to from the start.

Wow - autocorrect butchered that post. But... the things I've noticed so far:
Sad but true - I'm just happy the radio actually behaves like every radio I've ever had. Meaning, the presets load as expected - even when SiriusXM isn't the "front" app in the system. The left wheel allows you to go from preset to preset - I haven't gotten the "System Error - Function Unavailable" at all. And it knows if I start the car and it's tuned to whatever station is on preset "#6" and I hit the wheel to the right it goes to "#7" and not "#1" the first time. So it's a sad that this is what I'm excited about (should have worked like this from the very start), but it's true none-the-less - a radio that's as good as the one in my 09 Pilot...
CarPlay has connected without error - it's only been about 10 starts of the car so far, but each time I've tried a different variation: plugged in prior to start, plugged in while Infotainment was loading, after it's loaded, etc. and each time I got CarPlay and whatever audio source had been on previously. And as I mentioned above, the audio source responded like a normal radio would.
Again, it's only been two days but I was literally cursing at the car all weekend because I had three separate instances in the last week that I had to climb under the dash to pull the fuse because it had completely crashed and become unresponsive. I hate that I have to keep needle-nose pilers in the glovebox to pull the fuse just to get the system to shut off/restart.
So some seem like very small wins - but it's finally working like I would have expected from day one. Hopefully it continues... keeping my fingers crossed.

Ditto!! Cautiously optimistic!

potayto - potahto - it’s still completely ludicrous that one has to go under the dash to get the radio to shut off. We’re talking about a $40k+ quasi-luxury vehicle here, not an ‘86 Yugo.
But good to know.

Some observations:
1. Native navigation loads much faster. The response within the app is also speedier.
2. The map can be moved around by dragging with only one finger. Not sure if this is on previous versions, but I remember I had to use two-finger panning.
3. There were a couple of minor glitches on AA, e.g. music came from only the center speaker. But the AA experience is really good when using AA for music and native navigation together. Hope AA will get true touch support in the future.
4. The washed-out color of Google Map on AA is not unique to RDX. The same thing happened on a GM loaner I got earlier this year.

Don’t know if it affects anything but Apple released an update today, 13.2.2, to resolve background app performance, multitasking and cellular performance and a few other issues.

Has anyone noticed if text messages (I have an iPhone) are no longer being displayed when they come in? I have tried changing a few settings, but have not disconnected/reconnected the phone yet.

+1 on overall more stable release and fixes a number of minor annoyances.
I got excited by an earlier post saying AA Google Maps showed directions in HUD, but still not the case with Apple CarPlay...

So, what did the new update fail to fix?
or rather, what did it break that was working fine?
I have only had my car for a week so I’m still learning, but you seasoned veterans who’ve been suffering for the past year or so should be on top of this.

D.1.2.1 update 11/4/2019, Possibly the best update provided in over a year
Seems to have corrected many of the prior Quirks/Issues - Favorites in navigation, radio & phone were not overrode & remained 😊
1. HUD direction problems appear to have been corrected so its & display behind steering wheel are in sync with main display. 😊
2. I even think I see more point of interest in many of the Navigation / Find. Such as under "Restaurants" or "Food" or “Shopping” or “Gifts” or “Travel Agency”- I’ll have to spend more time checking. 😊
3. Fewer if any “System Error- Function Unavailable” showing when left steering wheel control are used to advance radio stations. 😊
>> However still experiencing problems caused by either the August 28th 2019 (D.1.1.4) firmware software or an Aculink update/ Can’t use AcuraLink map feature while car is off to send directions. only is working when I’m connected by Bluetooth & accessories or car is on.
>> Have not checked yet to see if they added ability to name favorites and tell the system to “go to” Paul’s House. would be fantastic if they addressed this concern so many have reported.

Playing music with a USB Flash Drive is still buggy for me. It still takes awhile to initialize every time I start the car (~45 seconds) and it gets lost every once in a while and has to reload the whole Flash Drive contents.

Update showed up here in Toronto today. Installed.
Constant connect/disconnect.
Apparently quite common for Android Auto.
I'm surprised that no one else on this thread has mentioned this as an issue?
I have a PixelXL2 and everything is up to date and all the Developer settings have been set properly.
Anyone seen this as an issue with USB connection. The head end system scree shows the message "cannot connect to the USB Device" and it repeats the cycle with connects and disconnects.
Very disappointing indeed.
Oh well
Cheers

FYI: This is recent
While there may be a variety of reasons why Android Auto isn’t connecting to your car stereo, the most likely culprit will be the USB cable. People have reported issues connecting even when they are using the USB cable that came with the phone. If this is the case for you check out this list of Google confirmed USB cables that will work for Android Auto.
