Broke my RDX!
Broke my RDX!
Hi all,
So, I'm not sure what the hell happened. I was trying to keep up with a buddies modded WRX STI last night, and my engine light popped on. I will admit, I was pushing the RDX hard, but I would think that a stock RDX should be able to handle that. I have 20k miles, and it's a 2021 Aspec. Once the light came on, the car bogged, and is now holding back most boost. It feels like it's in "limp mode". However, the weather was nice, no rain.
I have to swing by Acura after work to see what they have to say. Any ideas what this could be? I do all required maintenance on time, and just had an oil change about a month ago.

Was it wet outside? Maybe you got one of those TSB issues. Hopefully codes will not clear for dealership to see. You did not break anything, car should handle it.
The 3G RDX randomly going into limp mode has been a sporadic issue. Thing is, restarting it usually corrected this issue IIRC
Also, did you hear a "pop" while you were getting on it? Intake hoses popping off because of improperly tightened clamps have also been an issue.

"That’s the so-called “limp mode” reported by some RDX drivers, who say their vehicles lost power while driving at high speeds (often while trying to pass another vehicle on the highway).
Limp mode isn’t actually a mechanical problem—in fact, it’s a security measure that vehicles use to prevent more serious issues. By turning off non-essential systems like air conditioning and reducing the vehicle’s speed, limp mode allows the driver to “limp home” and address the mechanical failure (often a transmission problem) in a safe environment. So while limp mode can be scary, it’s actually better than the alternative. It’s also a relatively uncommon complaint for 2021 RDX owners."

So, I talked to Acura, and according to them there was a misfire on cylinder 3. They said that they changed the fuel filter, and cleared the CEL code.
Apparently, they drove it 10 miles afterwards at highway speeds, and it appears to be running fine.
I guess we will see how it holds up, but I am already anticipating another visit to the dealership..

This is when you need a Type-S!
Do you know the exact code? If I were you, I would check if the code matches those in the CEL TSBs. I think there is one TSB that mentioned misfire, and get the ECU update applied while you are still in warranty.

I’ll try to find out the code number. I’m currently in a lease, so I’ll be dumping this vehicle at the end of it.
I’m debating between a Tesla Model 3 performance and a Lexus IS 350 F-Sport. I was going to stick with Acura, but now I’m not so sure.
They did the ECU update as well. I forgot to mention that.
