Brake Lights

Have a new to me 2019 RDX tech. Found out today that the passenger side brake light is out. It looks to be led.
Even thought this will be fixed under warranty, do you have to replace the hole tail light assembly?

Yes the whole assembly needs to be swapped out

It looks like its 2 separate assemblies, the rear taillight and the lid portion on the rear door/trunk. Maybe $500 DIY?

Interesting to know. I saw a guy on youtube replace his rear blinker light, and the rear taillight seems very easy to pop off and replace yourself. The portion on the truck/rear door must be the same too.

You said the RDX is new to you. How recent was the purchase? Your info indicates you are in California. I believe a seller there cannot sell a car with any safety equipment that is not working. Brake lights would fall under safety equipment. If you bought from a dealer, perhaps you could go back to them to see if they would cover the cost. Of course, you might need to show it wasn't working when you purchased it. It might be worth a try.

It is not necessarily a bad light, it could be a loose wire or a connector problem. You should eliminate the more obvious (and cheaper) possible causes. If ALL the LEDs are dead, it most likely is not the light that is the problem, IMHO.

The Owner's Manual for my 2020 states the following:

Taillights, Brake and Rear Side Marker Lights
Taillights, brake and rear side marker lights are LED type. Have an authorized Acura
dealer inspect and replace the light assembly.

Rear Turn Signal Light Bulbs
When replacing, use the following bulbs.
Rear Turn Signal Light: 21 W (PY21W Amber/Silver)

My car still has 7 months under factory warranty so we have an appt on Saturday to replace the faulty light and have a software update.
When I pic the car up I will ask to see the broken part to see what exactly was replaced.

Did I miss a warning light that says there is a light out, or do I not have that type of warning device?

Got my taillight repair, software update and new rotors and pads (all four corners) due to a tsb. Ask the service advisor how much the tail light would have been if I purchased form the dealer and see said it was in the $600 dollar range. Took the part number from the invoice and went online and the price was about $300+.
