ZDX parts scarcity

I WAS going to spring for some minor out-of-pocket body work, but since waiting 8 weeks now for a water pump (still waiting) so I can finally do the cam belt, etc. service, I’m wondering if this will be an ongoing issue (?), thus throwing good money after bad. Styling cosmetics become rather moot if you can’t keep it on the road.

What year is your car?

There should be no reason your water pump should take that long, https://www.oemacuraparts.com/oem-pa...Y2LWdhcw%3D%3D assuming a 2012 ZDX for sake of comparison, it's shared amongst MANY Honda/Acuras..

That OEM ZDX water pump ALONE is 87% (rounded up) of the complete Aisin TKH002 kit from rockauto & he could have been done with the job 8 weeks ago.

OP, just curious, how much more did you pay for the rest of the TB components?

Hmm, I own a 2013 ZDX. I just had my water pump and timing belt replaced at the dealership over the weekend!

Honda dealer says it’s on ‘critical back order’. Go figure. I just forwarded him that link. I also have a local shop looking, but haven’t heard anything from them either.
Very disconcerting, as only part of a ‘MAJOR/ULTRA-EXTENSIVE’ service that’s overdue. You’d think they would jump through hoops to get the work.

Save yourself the money and just go buy it on RockAuto . No way a water pump that is shared across 21 years of cars is backorder

That being said, ZDX-specific parts *are* becoming scarce and, in some cases, impossible to find. It was part of the calculus that led to me trading mine in a few months ago.

@DJ Iceman Curious what parts specifically you were worried about sourcing? I agree, you ain't gonna find them at the junkyard but so many of the parts are shared across platforms, most of all the engine.

Service manager I was dealing with went on vacation and left me hanging. His sub scheduled me today, and said parts are no problem. When that mgr. returns, I’ll grill him (and the parts mgr. he blamed), and get to the bottom of it.
Next issue is fixing crack in lower rear bumper cover. Body man says can’t be fixed with cover on car, wants to replace & paint entire cover ($$$). I’ll likely just super-glue it and slap some fiberglass behind (have touch-up paint already). OEM cover would cost $400+. Don’t even want to think about what the paint & labor could run.

Man you're paying for service at a dealer, if you cared about saving money you would just take it to an indie shop, buy your parts as suggested above save a ton of money, and not cheap out on supergluing your bumper like a highschooler

Well, that's why I specified "ZDX-specific" parts are getting scarce. For me it was the 20" wheels and the accessory running boards, but I started poking around the various online Acura parts sites and was unpleasantly surprised to see so many ZDX parts no longer available.

Yep. Highschoolers are seldom flush, and typically must be resourceful. Too bad dealerships (unlike indie shops & parts suppliers) have the reputation of a major corporation to consider.

Well...I don't see accessories or wheels as being the reason to dump the car...
that's why I asked what parts are ZDX specific that would make you worried about keeping the car.

It's kind of silly & myopic, though, people have their reasons.

LOL...I was just digging deeper because he seemed relieved to dump the platform...was curious what parts he was afraid would leave him stranded.

Wow was not expecting such a great thread. Thanks to all who have replied. This topic has been on my mind as I have a 2010 @ 115k km(72k miles) with plans to keep it indefinitely and hopefully at lower mileage.

What major mechanical parts have been hardest for all of you to source?

Somehow found mine kitted with almost all the accessories

Exactly the question!
As you have read, one member above traded his ZDX in because some 'accessories' became extinct, the fact that major 'mechanical' parts are hard to source has not been fully established, as of yet; however, if you would like to endeavor, all one would theoretically have to do is 'scroll' through the 'sub-categories' (yellow) of each major part 'Categories' (red) and compile a list of 'discontinued' / 'unavailable' mechanical components.

Haha thanks I was looking for more real world experiences people here have experienced so far.
Considering it has been 14 years I assume there will be some correlation of variance with milage/parts and length of time from discontinuation.

Hilarious to hear you say this. You needed a replacement runningboard but couldn't get one. I offered you my spare running board new in the box and you offered $50.00....... so yeah.... perhaps it's best you sold the car.

You "offered" it to me? Care to tell the fellow members of AcuraZine the amount you wanted for something you'll never use and that was just taking up space in your garage? You, sir, are a d-bag and I'm glad I didn't do business with you.

You never had the option to do business with me. You didn't have enough money. Not my problem. He who has the part sets the price. Discontinued.....not available anywhere. You cried to the world you can't get the rocker panel....so In good faith I offered you the spare rocker I have new in the box which I didn't need to do. I still own my ZDX. I can ask whatever I want....thats the price of economics. Your pathetic offer of $50.00....completely laughable. I'm glad you sold your car so you can't insult the members here anymore.
And BTW when you result to slinging names or insults.....it just means you've lost the argument.

Yes, you were/are free to set the price, which I simply chose not to pay. I offered $50 for your time, and to pay for shipping, to get a box out of your garage that you're never going to need. I think of the Acurazine community as just that--a community. You see it differently, as a way to gouge someone and make a profit, trying to charge more for the one running board than you paid for two of them. Supply and demand, simple economics and all that--yes. Doesn't change who you are as a person, whether or not you like being called out on it.

Yeah....lets talk community shall we? You desperately needed the part and could not find or get it. Facts. I saw your cry for help. I offered you my personal back-up to help you out. I didn't need to do that but I did.

I made my spare rocker panel available to you as a Community. Are you under the impression that because I have this part in my supply while I still own a ZDX I should just give it to you? What economic world do you live in?

Whine all you want...victim mentality all you want. I told you I have spare parts for my ZDX in case one day I need them while I still own the car. I will keep the parts that are discontinued and no longer available while I still Own the car.

I tried to help you.....at the same time I'm not a charity case. You live in a world that thinks strangers should inconvenience their lives to your benefit. $50.00..... you're a pure joke.

You sold your car because you couldn't get parts???? Its because you don't have the funds to bail yourself out of your own problems

I laugh now that you're still complaining about the scarcity of parts on a car you no longer have --------even though the ZDX Community offered to help you and you spit in their face ........pffffffftt go away....you're not helping your case here.
