Tail Light and 3rd Brake Light Stays On

I woke up to find my car's tail lights and 3rd brake lights are on. Turned on the car, pressed on the brakes, drove it around for a bit and it still stays on. Locked the car, open it, still stays on. Nothing is lit up on the dash lights by the way.

Does anyone have this experience with this and know of a fix for this? Any information is much appreciated.

Your brake switch has become stuck! you can check it out its just top of the brake pedal, follow the brake pedal bracket and you will see it. Its a 20 bucks fix.

switches get gummed up inside- crc contact cleaner solves that
Or it can get loose screws and fall out of position- get jammed ON

worth testing a bit before actual replacement

I just came back from a trip and decided to take a further look at this issue. I found these broken plastic pieces under the steering column and near the pedals.

Can anyone verify that it is in fact the part Skirmich mentioned up top (#3)? Or could this piece be something else totally different?

That looks like a rubber stop.
Part No. 3 is a SWITCH = Electronic part.

does the swtich still have a plunger on it or did it break? if it does push it and have someone check the lights for you to verify the switch is bad or not - ive seen on some other cars where the pad that the plunger hits when the pedal is pressed just breaks also so check that

That part is #4 in Skirmich's diagram, and contacts the plunger on the brake light switch. Replacing it should cure the problem.
