I think peregrine retrofitted a pair of tailights but he said the light output was poor.
Another person took the taillights of a land rover and retrofitted them into the housing.
They looked great.

Interesting,
One thing that I noticed with the LED reverse lights (which have housings and reflectors almost identical to the brake lights) is that the tower style LEDs don't emit light out of the backs of the bulbs and are therefore not that noticeable at all because they don't illuminate the reflectors. Incan bulbs have a true 360 degree viewing angle whereas even the '360 degree' tower LEDs don't.
So you'll need your bulbs to emit light toward the socket.
When you say "incorporate LEDs into brake lights," do you mean that you're using a combo of incan and LEDs? That might be a good idea because you'll have the true 360 degree light emission that incan bulbs provide PLUS the radiance of LEDs.
But if you don't want a 'solid' look, you might want to do away with the reflectors behind all together because they distribute light. Take a look at the pics on this thread here:

^^I like those a lot, and they look more infiniti-ish. You might want to try something similar.
Anyway, good luck with the construction of your bulbs, and keep us posted with your progress.

I'm not going to open tail lights. I'm not mounting anymore LEDs in there. That route didn't work for me. My project is not focused on LED lights, but on rear fog light functionality. Not the type of fog light that euro and JDM cars have, I don't want to lose my reverse light, I'm basically upgrading my rear lamps so the middle light (parklight) will be 2-stage, not just 1-stage.

lol.. where did you get that from Jeff? I did no such thing. I added LEDs that were supposed to work as rear fog light, but because of a combination of things, they really didn't do the job. So now I'm getting back to this project, but it'll be of a much bigger scale. I'll post details afterwords in our place.
