A7 service
A7 service
Apparently the "7" stands for brake fluid flush. They recommend every 30,000 miles or every 2 years. It costs $160ish at my dealer (not including the oil change). It is really necessary? When I call the service department earlier to make the appointment, they didn't know what is the "7". She said it was only 1 to 6. Is this brake fluid flush new?
7 is new. Maybe came with 2019 RDX as it didn't exist before. You can check your owners manual to confirm what that means, not sure how you found out it was brake fluid flush.
If your someone that plans to keep the car 10+ years and likes to have good maintenance and health I would just do it then. IF your leasing the car....well.....most people wouldn't. Up to you

If 7 is new, then what about the older model acuras? They don't need brake fluid flush? I don't think I ever did brake fluid flush in my other cars. I did it anyways that's what the service minder says.
My last service warning was A17 and, when I looked it up, it said that 7 was the brake fluid flush.
Booked an online appointment with my dealer. The 7 was listed at $362.00!
When I showed up for the appointment, the service manager said that they don't do brake fluid flush until the car is in service for 3 years.
I may do it next year and I may not. Definitely not for $362.00.

brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the atmosphere.
not many people change it, however, it would be wise to change it....as it can prevent brake calipers from locking up with rust.
the added "7" in the MID makes me think Acura has wised up and had gotten tired of warranting brake calipers.
even tho in previous cars in the owners manual it states to change brake fluid every three years.
preventive measures are always welcomed measures

right, I change my own brake fluid every three or so years. for me; it's not that big of a waste as he is suggesting.
I get the piece of mind and the added bonus of inspecting other components while doing the brake fluid swap.
probably one of the best aspects of maintaining a vehicle.... inspecting other components for wear or failure.

my 2019 that I bought August 2018 recently showing "A7". while I only have about 14,000 miles it has been in service for 2 years. The main maintenance screen states " its Brake Hydraulic System. Though surprisingly AcuraLink does not go up to "7" CarFax does & is states to Drain, Refill & Bleed Brake Hydraulic System. Most car Mfr's suggest to do this every 2 years regardless of mileage because all brake fluids absorb water which is bad for the system
what we are seeing is a shift away from the normal practice of three years...which tells me that manufactures are tired of warrantying the brake system. instead of letting it go for three years and possibly buggering up the brake lines and brake calipers, they rather maintain the system by changing the fluid earlier.
to some, like bbq tech tips, would call it a money grab.
to me; it's a smart idea, especially if one does it him or herself.

I’m doing B127 this weekend. Bought all OEM fluid, have the factory manuals, also doing rear diff with the high maintenance plan.
Brakes are easy, with the RDX you do driver front, passenger front, passenger rear, and then driver rear for bleeding. Brake fluid holds water and pulls it in which can cause rust internally

Per the maintenance minder,

7 indicates brake fluid change.
But if you don't get a 7 before 3 years, then it should be done at least every 3 years.
At my Acura dealer: oil and filter, air filter, tire rotation, brake fluid svc. $238
Brake fluid change for my wife’s Accord at the Honda dealer $130.

OMG - love that analog tape deck there BarBQ. I've sometimes thought of getting an old Revox to sit there and turn while I use my stereo even if its not really the source, just to enjoy that visual action in the room. I think it was Thomas Wolfe in Look Homeward, Angel who taught us that we'll probably never get back the -full- feeling of those wonderful 70's audiophile systems but hey, we can try every now and then, right?

Just had the service done, they didn't change the fluid. They said the 7 is a inspection and recommendation to change, but not a requirement. It starts popping up after 15k miles. They advised they would change it at the next oil change.
I highly highly recommend getting 7 done. I had a newly built RDX I bought in October of 2018, and I did my service 2 years on the dot. The fluid looked very gross and look pretty bad to be honest. Especially with these electric parking brakes, and the complex systems that let the car brake on its own, I would change it. As the brake fluid absorbs water it will slowly cause the system to rust from the inside out. I did mine myself for about $25 with my wife, but paying a dealer $120-150 isn’t unreasonable at all. A lot of people think, oh it’s fine, the real damage it does is long term, it will probably work great for 5 years, and then have fun replacing thousand dollar components, maybe several. You always hear the people who never changed jack for the life of the car, but brakes to me are a safety thing, and I want my car to last long term. Considering how cheap of a service it is, brake components are very expensive. If you think you know better then the Acura engineers maybe you should start your own car manufacturing company 🤔 🤷🏻♂️
