Alarm going off when exiting

Our 2017 MDX has an annoying feature. for some reason if I leave the car and my kid(s) take their time to get out after I have left the vehicle and entered the house, the moment they try to open the door from the inside the alarm goes off. Doesn't make sense to me why would an alarm go off when exiting the vehicle? How can I set it up so this doesn't happen?

Thanks

Don't believe it has anything to do with "exiting the vehicle," it has more to do with the alarm being armed/set and the circuit being opened. The alarm doesn't necessarily know that the door it being opened from the inside, just that the circuit is being opened or broken.
How long are your kids staying in the car after you leaved and close your door??

Do you have the walk-away feature enabled? If you do, the vehicle will lock itself if the doors are still closed and the fob is no where near the proximity of the vehicle, thus, triggering the alarm when your kids open the door. And if you do have it enabled, please stay with the kiddos or give them the fob if you intend on going inside the house earlier than them. If this option doesn't work, in the MID screen go to Vehicle settings > Locks > Walkaway (something similar to it), and click off or disable.

That's the issue. I have left my wife in the car, and went to the store with the key fob. The car automatically locked and if she try's to leave, the alarm goes off.

Yep, you have "walk away auto lock" enabled. SO when you walk away with the key, once you get about 10ft or so away from the car, its locked. So your kids are unlocking the car from the inside which triggers alarm

If I remember, go to Settings, then Vehicle Settings, then Walk Away Auto Lock, turn that off

One would think with all the tech they could make the system know if the door is being opened from the inside or outside.

No different from leaving the windows down and locking the vehicle, thus turning on the alarm. If someone were to reach inside and unlock/open the door, the alarm would sound. Typical W.A.D. in tech speak . . .working as designed.

This ^ +1 and as I mentioned above. The circuit is being broken/opened............... doesn't matter how.
