As much as I would love to have a 2014 MDX; I am going purchase a 2011 or 2012 MDX advance and wait and see what Acura has for the MMC for the 2016 or 2017 MDX. I can see the Krell audio and +30 mpg sport/hybrid making it to the +2017 MDX.

Thanks! I was planning to buy these ahead of time:

Sport Bumper trim (front and rear lower garnish), Advance (or sport) Running boards, Front LED fog lights (this one will fly off the shelves in a week from dealers),Cargo cover , Illuminated front door sills , All-season floor mats,Body Side Molding,Rear-bumper applique,Cargo tray, Cargo net, seat covers.

Last time, when I got the 2nd generation in 2007 , I tried to buy accessories and everything was in backorder....
I put the deposit 2 months ago, so I'm hoping to get the car by the end of June! I asked the dealer here in FL they don't have accessories yet....

I wonder how is the process work for those of you put down $1,000 deposit.
1. Is this the same as pre-order? Did you let the dealer know what trim level, color, and accessories you want and they put in the order for you?
2. Did you negotiate for any discounts or just expect to pay the sticker price?
Thanks.

Well, when u give the deposit for a brand new car like that the dealer will not negotiate anything ( and I don't believe they would anyway for the first 6 months), and yes I picked trim level and color , no acessories that I will have to do it later , since when I put the order in no acessories were available yet. The only thing I pre negotiate is my trade in value.

I have heard of strange things, but never have i heard of options and accessories flying off the inventory before the actual vehicle arrives! This is definitely a first for me!

It could be because this was the original 'on sale' date?

Thanks for the info, alkus77.
So did you have to sign any contract at the time of deposit? Can you back out when the car arrive if you see something that you don't like?

I'm pretty sure the deposit is refundable. If someone decides not to buy it, someone else will.

They might say it is not refundable, but I am pretty sure it is! they will sell it for the next in line the same day!
No contract just an invoice/receipt

When you preorder/order new car with accessories (like fog lights, running boards), is the factory or the dealership doing the installation? And I think the price listed is not include installation fee right? Thanks.

All those accessories will be dealer installed. Honda does no customization at the factory (and they choose what trims/colors are produced on their factory lines).

Without the headlight and taillights, the new MDX has lines very similar to the Infiniti Jx. I was disappointed with the exterior shape and lack of styling. Seems Acura is keen not to take too much risks after the horrid grille debacle they had in the previous generation vehicles.

I was a bit confused at first with the lack of fog lights, but it does appear it will be offered. See attached pic. Also no Hybrid option? Really disappointed in that. They're really pushing that spacious console aren't they?

Overall from videos, pics I'm a little disappointed. Like some people, i'm hoping the vehicle is more appealing in person. I've been waiting for the release for a couple of years now for the growing family.

Colors

I found this page in a dealer's website, which can give some idea about how the exterior and interior colors look like.

Thanks for sharing this information.

I'm in SF Bay/San Jose area. In San Jose, there are 4 Acura dealerships. I just started to talk in emails, but none of them explicitly told that I need to put some deposit to get a car in July.

I'm not sure how much strong pre-order and demands are there at this moment.

By the way, is it really impossible to get any discount (even $500 from the MSRP)?

Hmm, if you pre order I don't believe they will negotiate anything, but if the car is in their inventory ,sitting in the parking lot, maybe you can negotiate something. Since I preorder , I negotiated my trade in 07 MDX and some accessories instead.

Hybrid should follow some time in 2014. When I first saw the RLX on the website I did not like it, when I saw it at the dealer it look much better, I'm sure will be the same thing with MDX. Adding the fog lights and some accessories it will look very good IMO.

Thanks. While waiting for three dealerships' responses, one dealership says that they can take a refundable check. In here, MDX is very popular, but there are at least four dealerships, so I don't want to make a strong pre-order or so.

One (off-topic) question: I will trade in 06 Accord. But, I believe that selling to private party will be much better in dollars. I don't think dealerships would give a price as shown in KBB private party. Is this right? Is it better to trade in with the dealership? (This is almost my first experience to buy a new car.)

Oh, for sure they will pay only the fair trade in value or less! If you can sell it to a private party is much better.

This. When you purchase a car that has to be factory ordered (or is not on their lot yet), they don't know what kind of discounts or promotions will be on the car when you actually purchase it. Since money doesn't actually change hands until delivery, they won't be as friendly about pricing.

Wait until your dealer has some 2014 MDXs on the lot, then you should be able to walk in and negotiate a price. You will be able to get money off of the MSRP (probably down near invoice), but the sales person will be able to push you harder because they know you want that car. It's a matter of convincing the sales person that you are willing to walk away if they don't sell you the car at the price you want.

I'm in the market for this vehicle, but I'm not so enamored that I would pay much over invoice much less a premium price. I think the JX is very competitive with the MDX and they are offering substantial discounts. Once the new wears off, then I would hope I could pay a fair price if I like the MDX as much as I have my last two MDX's.
