Just for comparison - 2014 BMW X5

BMW has officially unveiled the 2014 X5, following this afternoon's leak.
Looking instantly recognizable, the redesigned crossover has evolutionary styling which closely mimics the outgoing model. Despite the déjà vu design, the 2014 X5 has a more prominent grille, an aerodynamic front bumper and optional LED adaptive headlights. Other touches include rear "Aero Blades" and new "Air Curtains" that promise to reduce drag by routing air around the wheel arches.

The interior is pretty familiar but adopts higher quality materials and an improved design. Key features include LED ambient lighting, a freestanding iDrive display, gloss black accents and Oxide Silver, Aluminum Hexagon or Poplar Grain wood trim. Due to the model's increased dimensions, there's additional interior room and a more accommodating boot that can hold up to 1,870 liters (66 cubic feet) of luggage.

Options include comfort / sport seats, a reclining second row and heated / ventilated front seats. The model can also be equipped with four-zone automatic climate control, a third row seat, a Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen audio system as well as a new rear seat entertainment system with two "tablet-style" displays.

At launch, the model will be offered with three different engines. The X5 xDrive50i features a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that develops 450 HP (330 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). In terms of efficiency, owners can expect to average 10.4 - 10.5 L/100km (26.9 - 27.2 mpg UK / 22.4 - 22.6 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 242 to 244 g/km.

Next up, the X5 xDrive30d has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 258 HP (190 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). Thanks to its fuel-efficient engine, the X5 xDrive30d averages 6.2 L/100km (45.6 mpg UK / 37.9 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 162 to 164 g/km.

Lastly, the X5 M50d has a tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine which produces 381 HP (280 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to run from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Despite the impressive performance, the model returns 6.7 L/100km (42.2 mpg UK / 35.1 mpg US) and has CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

On the handling front, BMW offers a variety of suspension packages. The Dynamic adaptive suspension package comes with Dynamic Drive active roll stabilization, while the Comfort active suspension package has a rear air suspension and Dynamic Damper Control. If those choices sound like two different extremes, the Professional adaptive suspension package promises to deliver the best of both worlds as it combines the features of Comfort and Dynamic suspension packages. Lastly, ordering the M Sport package equips the model with an Adaptive M suspension that has Dynamic Damper Control, a rear air suspension and sportier tuning all-around.

The 2014 BMW X5 will be built in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Germany deliveries are scheduled for November.

The new BMW X5 does look nice inside and out, BUT it does look incredibly similar to the current generation.

I wonder if those people who heavily criticized the 2014 MDX to look too similar to the current generation will also criticize the new X5 in the same way, too?

You're kidding right? Of course they will. Most fervently on 'enthusiast' forums.

Yeah - I think most are in agreement that this is more of an "evolutionary" design vs "revolutionary". The ever popular, "If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it" design model

I think they did a great job polishing off and refining the incoming model and like other X5's this too will sell like hotcakes. The BMW moniker will certainly help its sales, but besides that, its a quality built vehicle and I've always been a fan.

The one major deterrent for me has always been seating/cargo space. From the sounds of things, looks like BMW has made some improvements here but I'll have to see first hand to believe it. All in all, very nicely done.

So 6 grand to go Advanced on either FWD/SH-AWD which gives you: Different 19" wheels, a bigger rear DVD entertainment screen, a slightly better stereo and remote start?!? Seems to be hefty price for what you get IMO!

Wheels
MDX Standard = 18" 5-spoke machined wheel, like an updated version of the current wheel
MDX Tech & Tech/Ent = 19" 10-twin spoke machined wheel, as seen above
MDX Adv/Ent = 19" 7-spoke silver wheel

Audio Systems
MDX Standard = 432-watt, 8-speaker
MDX Tech = 501-watt ELS with 10-speakers
MDX Tech/Ent = 529-watt ELS with additional 11th speaker mounted in ceiling
MDX Adv/Ent = 546-watt ELS with 12-speakers

Electronic & Other Features
-Tech/Ent models use a 9" rear screen and rear window sun shades (like the RLX)
-Adv/Ent models use a 16.2" rear screen with HDMI port and can play 2 inputs at once
-Welcome feature with LED puddle lamps that light as you approach on Tech & above models
-Abient lighting underneath the 2nd and 3rd row seating for those foot wells
-3-level heated seating on all models, plus 3-level rear heating on Ent models
-Remote start from factory on the smart fob is standard only on Adv/Ent models, with 330-foot range and DOES STAY ON when the car is unlocked to get in, not turning off like current accessory model. This will be an accessory on Standard & Tech models
-Limo mode for 2nd row seat allow sliding fore/aft 2"

I agree. I don't really want the entertainment package so I'll probably just get the Tech package and add some of the features (as accessories) like remote start.

Anyway, I posted these photos in another thread but I think they belong more in this thread.

^^^ Judging from the 7 spoke wheels, I'm assuming this the ADV/ENT.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the TECH/ENT with some fogs, running boards and a roof rack.

Nothing in the ADV package that can justify a 6K markup. Not for me at least!

Not much in Advance other than electronic nannies. Pass. I'll probably stick to TECH, although the cooled seats would be nice.

Wish TECH could pass on the 19's too, 18's are more than adequate. Heck, the 19's on the RLX weight 60lbs each, talk about too much unsprung weight!

I think the advance will also include the roof rack.

Just doesn't do it for me. It looks too "clean" or "smooth" for me if you get what I mean. Maybe it will look better in person.

Wait, the spread on the current MDX is $11,525, RLX is $12,000, TL is $9,480, TSX is $9000, even the ILX is $9116. A $6K spread would be the smallest in the whole lineup.

Also, the Advance adds: Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Milano leather, Heated + Cooled seats, and Front and Rear Parking Sensors. IMO, there is a whole lot of extra features for the money.

PS, I hear that production has moved again. So now official release has moved from June 2nd -> July 30 -> June 27.

Thanks for the good news ! Seeing one of the recent interior pics looks like it will have rain sensor too, the Canadian version will have a 360* camera ,maybe we'll get that too on the advance !?

Going to be a while longer until anyone sees one, but I see the vin # to our first AWD Tech in transit now which is a good sign.

June will be hard to find any MDX month, especially 2013's.

At least we have a ballpark now, and it is actually cheaper than what I thought.

This SUV is growing on me more and more. Right now I have a 2010 RDX and this just might be my next SUV... of course in black though. I really wish they had some pics in black so I could get a good feel for it.

can't complain about the pricing, it's on par with the out going model and the Lexus RX lineup. i just don't get it why does Acura stuck a detuned V6 into the MDX. why does Acura always want to resurrect RL/RLX as the flagship? MDX has been the bread and butter of Acura the last 10 years, why not offer the best you can offer into the MDX. Acura does not need a flagship sedan to be relevant again, a flagship SUV would do, if not better.

I agree to some extent, said thing is it is sedans that mark the brands they compete with. I really don' see the RLX doing very well. Seems like they invested a great deal of cash and I doubt they will get a return on that investment, other than to write off R&D that will trickle down to the MDX/TLX, etc.

Probably to get better fuel economy numbers. They did say at the prototype launch that the MDX will get best in class fuel economy.

maybe so, but i'd rather get the top of the line dream earth V6 than to brag about the 1 more mpg advantage.

I think the grill and wheel offsets fix everything. And yes, the fog lights fix things too, but the grill is most important here. haha

IMO its priced appropriately. Pretty solid improvements all around except for the dreaded EPS which everyone knew was coming. I think Acura learned its lesson with the RLX that moving pricing up aggressively in one generation simply isn't going to fly.

Most impressive is 37.6 feet turn circle. I cannot think of any SUV of this size manage to do that. It is smaller than Accord/RLX and Lexus RX despite it having narrower tires.

Incorrect negative statements about "why a smaller detuned engine" need to subside. Smaller and down on technical spec power? Perhaps. But in real world, a lower and stronger torque curve, a faster MDX all around, and huge increase in mileage. Not bad things, especially not faster with better mileage.

You will see these finally probably by June month end.
