Hard wired my Valentine one

Hard wired my Valentine one
Finally got my helms manual.
First Disconnect neg terminal & waited a few minutes ...probably didnt have to but just to be safe.
I pulled the rubber down out of the door &
Took off the A pillar...very carefully
There one more clip inside & it pops off real easy.
Next & I dropped the front of the head liner to run the wire to where im gonna mount the V1.
Stuck a screw driver in the back of the sunvisor hook, twisted it & pulled it out.
Poped the cover that conceals the screws for the sunvisor pivot
& unscrewed it
Ran the wirefrom the gap in the headliner behind the rear veiw mirror
to the a-pillar opening.
Dont wake up the sleeping side airbags.
I snaked it down the a pillar along side the wires in the plastic tube (forgot what its called) that were already there
down down down behind the dashboard...
Now here is where it get tricky lest take a long walk into under dash world.
Ideally what & wanted to do was piggly back that white & red wire &&&&
Ground it here....can you see it...I know its blurry.....Grounding point.
However I figured that Id rather have easy access to it should something go wrong plus one day I might want to add one of these
so I ran the wire back under the dash to the console to the back of the the accessory socket
now its time to mount the direct wire hardware they gave me.

I went directly behind the cig lighter in the this is not an ashtray box & piggy backed the pos & neg. The pos piggy back clip came from valentine one in there kit the small neat one to the right..(white& red wire look familiar) the big square one came from radio shack the wanted you to groung it to a grounding point but the U shaped neg conector they gave me was to small so I cliped it off & used these....
The negative wire comes along side the wire instead of crossing it like a T obviously

Nice install and DIY instructions.
Trust me, I'm not trying to sound rude on this part. Just helpful: Move the actual V1 unit down a couple inches below your mirror. So maybe it doesn't look concealed, but then you can actually put the whole 360 degree ability to use. If you're going to hide a radar detector, don't spend your $$$ on a V1. You're taking away from its effectiveness if it doesn't have a clean line of sight behind and around you.

Man I hereby take my hat off to you for doing all this in the pucking wetass rain
Now what is this business all about here ??? installing a radar detector ?
Honestly bro, you should loose that cheapass air freshener...don't belong in this car.
Brings bad luck, IMO...(seems to me a lot of wrecked car have one of that in the car...)
May I suggest something like this, sir :
or if you don't mind something japanesy:

Next im gonna try to half tackle my system. I figured since I was under there pokin around Id try this just for kicks...
This is a polk audio tweeter i want to put in the factory location. .........
& I wondered if it would fit right in in without cutting it
& as we can see ...Might need a lil K-Y jelly to get those in
I took the ring off & tried to fit it.
That gives you an idea of how much we'll have to cut.
Well save that for another day

Great detailed instructions.
I just got myself a radar detector. Does this DIY generalize beyond your model?
I got one of the cobra models.
was the wiring part of a kit for your detector or a kit in general or just parts you got together yourself.

For radar detectors with no extra modules or whatever, it seems easiest just to route the wire up the rear view mirror stalk and into the map light housing, then hook into the power to the autodimming mirror, ground it on a screw, the end.
Takes 15-20 minutes tops with minimal disassembly of the interior.

that might not be the smartest thing to do, because then ull have constant power running to the detector...no? and then u can possibly drain the battery and keeping the detector on all the time wouldn't be a good thing either..

If the car is on & I want it off I turn the knob to off.
Neither have constant power if the car is turned off.

I had to search to find out what the hell a Valentine one was. I guess its a radar detector. But my question is.....I saw you take apart the car and run some type of wire.....why isn't that wire hooked up to the radar detector in the pic? And with all the dismantling of the car wy didn't you hard wire the radar detector?

the after pic is a red X
ill re post it when I find it.
some of the more important pics are red x's

Are there some pictures missing? I remember I saw this thread a while back and thought the unit was installed underneath the sun visor? I was thinking about doing something similar, but I was worried about the range if I put it there. Thanks.

I'm thinking about the Escort 8500 or Bel RX65. I saw a post on here somewhere where the guy hardwired into the fuse for the shut-off button for the passenger windows. I would like to do that as well, using the hardwire kit for Escort or Bel. Do you just put one of those add-a-circuits into the fuse for the passenger window shut off button, and then plug the hardwire kit into that? That sounds pretty easy. I'm thinking I could just do that instead of finding a place for a mute button. I have a Bel 980 and if I'm on the phone I have to pull the plug out of the 'not an ashtray' power to shut it off. I'd love to have it on the switch for the window shut off.

Wired my V1 with the help of this thread. Thanks CJ!
I still have yet to mount the consealed display. But I ran the wire for it to the center console. I was thinking of mounting it inside the "not an ashtray" compartment.
Also, someone mentioned that mounting it that high may cause problems. I really dont see a problem with it because if I look in through my back window (though the tint), and put myself at eye level with the V1, it has a clear view out the rear. Should work fine...

but usually when you say piggy back on an install like this you tap into a current power line and then send it to the detector through another wire, youd buy a wire tap, crimp it into the power wire, and then connect the RD wire to that via a connector of some sort, theres also the ghettoer ones that use the power wire inline and then the other wire inline, both crimped into the same 1 piece setup

So as long as I piggy back and ground the wires, I'm good to go, right?
I don't have to add an extra fuse, or mess with the fuse box, if I just tap into the
"white & red" wire.

you should only do something like that if your hardwire kit had an inline fuse on it, otherwise you might wanna add a fuse on there to be safe
