Regarding extended warranty.

This November our warranty will expire and wewill have about 40 K. We decided to keep the car in lieu of trading it in and anotherthree year car loan. The dealer offeredus a 5 year/100, 000 -0 deductible for $1,800. Are there better deals out thereand do insurance companies like Allstate offer warranties? Thanks for the info guys…………W.R.

Agree with ttribe. Need more details to help you out.

Year, make, model at baseline.

I'd try to stick with a manufacturer extended warranty. Third party warranties are difficult to work with.

For the OP, I'd check prices online from places such as http://www.curryacuracare.com/ and http://www.hyannishondacare.com. I think prices are a few hundred less.

For $1,800, I think you can get a 7 years/120,000 miles $0 deductible coverage.

$1,800 for an AcuraCare warranty isn't bad at all. The HFL (I'm assuming the TSX has bluetooth) can be fairly expensive to fix. I don't know about the TSX, but my TL went through three power steering racks and they were all covered because I had the extended warranty. It was worth the price just right there.

It's all about piece of mind. At 40K that's not a bad price to pick up a warranty.

Note to OP in the future negotiate the ext warranty at time of purchase. Can save you lots of $$$$

Yes, while you can get a better deal for a warranty on a new car from places like SaccucciHonda, getting a factory backed warranty for a used car is a bit trickier and more expensive.

If you've had the car for 5 years (assuming that you were the original owner) without issues then it might be best to just skip the warranty if the car has been trouble free up to know. Put the $1800 into a CD and you might make money.

Buying the extended warranty when new saves you money but if you sell the car before the extended warranty has expired then you will lose money as it is prorated from the day you drive off the lot.

That is not too bad. Dealer Cost is $1,270 for 0 deductible acura care for "Near New Acura vehicles. This includes the $150 surcharge for falling under 36k-50k miles on your car.

I opted for the same plan. They may work with you a bit more too. I bought my tsx off lease. My coworker at my honda dealership was turning his 09tsx with tech in off acura lease. He had to replace the navi system once under acuras warranty. Retail cost to fix it was $4,500 if the vehicle was outside of warranty. For me it was a easy desicion. I look at it as, for the next 5yr/100k if something goes wrong, I pay ZERO.

Don't go for a NON Honda/Acura warranty. With acura care, you pull in the service drive, they punch your vin into the Honda network and it shows them what service your have, and they fix your car asap. Also has FULL roadside PKG and rental if your car is in the shop.

Now, not saying non Honda/acura warranty is bad but here is what happens.
My friend came in to visit with me needing a new vehicle. I got him a great deal on a Honda certified crosstour 2010 that came with a 7yr 100k pwrtrain and 12m/12k mile bumper to bumper warranty. Only at time of purchase you can opt for a certified wrap. Just takes the 12/12 to match the 7/100k pwr train so now everything is bumper to bumper. They sold him a Fidelity warranty at cost (about $1,200) which isn't a bad warranty at all.

He came in and saw me last Saturday, his reg mechanic was changing his oil and saw his power steering system was leaking. He told him to go to any Honda dealer since your bought extended coverage.

Service looked at the vehicle, then determined it needed new power steering rack. He told them he had fidelity warranty.

So here are the steps for NON Acura warranty. You call company and ask for an, adjuster. They have to come out 1st before work is done to see if they will cover it and if so how much if not all of it. Adjusters aren't there on weekends. So Monday service adviser called adjuster, adjuster came Tuesday afternoon, looked at vehicle and approved the whole amount/repair. It was ready for him wed. So it did take care of him and saved him about $1,100 shop bill so he has already got his money back but With Honda/Acura care non if this is needed.

Hope this helps.

Iam I missing something here? The Acura's (at least the 2012 TSX I bought) have a 4 year 50K bumper to bumper.

Why is yours running out in 3 months? Did you buy at the end of '09 or something?

We took delivery in December of 2009. It’s a 2010. Onedealer in NJ offered the 5yr./100K for $1,800-0 deductible. We just were at theNY dealer where we purchased the car for a brake fix and he offered me a3yr/80K-0 deductible for $1,300. We’re going with that because we only want tokeep the car for another two years or so. The warranty excludes body andinterior. It covers all the important stuff. I know the car is bombproof, thewarranty is just peace of mind…………………….thanks for your input,

On an Acura, you are going to spend $1300 for piece of mind??? It's a Honda product. IMO, you already paid extra for piece of mind. Your car is 4 years old, not 10. And you plan on keeping it only 2 years. You already have power train warranty from Acura for 2 more years, so something strange would have to go out to the tune of more than $1,300 for you to win, and those warranties don't cover repair items.

IMHO, you are making a terrible decision buying an extended warranty for this car for the 2 more years you are going to own it. Hell, I might almost charge you $1,000 and personally guarantee to repair any non-wear item myself.

Not sure if you purchased it already, but I was recently looking at an extended warranty for my TSX. At 48,500 miles on my '10 w/ tech., Curry Acura (online) quoted me $1075 for plan G38...3 years / 80,000 miles / $0 deductible. Not sure if you have to pay tax since you're dealing with them online, but it didn't matter to me because Jody Wilkinson Acura in Salt Lake matched the price and I'd rather buy from them...even if I had to pay the sales tax here.

I would give two thumbs up for Bernardi Honda. Bernardi is a family of dealerships in Eastern MA (including Acura of Boston). I have purchased several extended warranties from them as well as multiple orders of parts. Julianna is top notch with helping the warrantys. She was able to do things Hyannis Honda couldn't. If you are shopping around, give them a try.

These would be my thoughts also. I'm not against extended warranties if the car will be around to warrant it, but if the OP only has two years to go, and averages around the same amount of miles driven (10K miles a year), then he's wasting his money. Any time sensitive problems should have already shown up, and even at 60K (in two years), as long as the car has been serviced on time and properly, it will just be broken in.

I appreciateeveryone’s opinion. I know the powertrain is for another two years, however wehave been so vigilant with maintenance, I want to keep the car for at least two years of longer, probably three. I don’t want to be in the position where mydarling wife (TSX owner) says, “I told you we should have taken the extendedwarranty”. On another note, I’m retired and I work part time for a major carrental. I have driven just about everything on the planet. There are only a fewcars that are in the same league as Acura. Thanks for your input Acura guys.

I also have a 2010 TSX and being my 6th Acura, I opted to buy the extended 5-year 100,000 mile warranty. I have 81,000 miles at the moment. I had the timing chain, tensioner and water pump replaced last week ($1100+ totally covered under the warranty) and I'm having the radiator replaced next week ($900+ also totally covered).

Honda's are indeed incredibly reliable cars, but when the odometer is in the ballpark of around 80K - 90K, some things are going to need replacing that will justify the extended warranty.

I think of it as Health Insurance for my car...you never know!

How did you know these things needed to be replaced? My car has the same amount of miles, same extended warranty and I've found no faults in anything so far (Barley used the warranty for anything).

My CEL came on, accompanied with my check VSA and Emission System warnings, at almost exactly 80K. I needed my A1 Service anyway, so I had Acura check the code as well and it was for the Timing Chain and Tensioner, so they gave me a loaner TSX and replaced everything needed, under warranty. Easy as that.

My radiator has started leaking this past week. I've been waiting for this since Honda radiators are well known for going out and needing replacement around 90K. It happened in my 98 Integra and in my 06 TL as well.

80 to 90k miles? I think that applies to BMWs and MERCs... Hondas are as tough as it can get. the radiator on my 96 civic is still the stock rad with 160,000miles on the ODO and daily driven. hoses are same stock. the only one that seems to be giving up is the tranny... it's hard to push it into 3rd gear and 1st gear grinds at times. ofcourse it's recommended to replace the timing belt & waterpump at 100K miles but when I opened it up they're both lokking good but still had to replace them. besides that the motor mounts do disentegrate at around 100K miles.

anyway, since were on the TSX forums... I can't say it's the same toughness as the old reliable 90's civic or even the integra (we still own both an EJ hatch and DC2 in the household) But Hondas are not known for parts breakdown around 80k-90k. unless you drive them hard or bring them to track.

Albeit, timing chains/belts (and all associated parts) and radiators are the ONLY things I've ever had replaced on any of my Acuras...

I'm going off personal experience (with three of my Acuras I've owned all needing new radiators around 90K miles) and from many, many members' similar experiences on multiple Honda/Acura forums I've belonged to for the past 12 years.

I love Hondas, but it's just a plastic Denso radiator; nothing too special. It's not going to last forever.
