^that's really silly to think that.
all cars go through the same assembly line. to assume that they skip or dont apply a clear to red cars is silly.
clear, clear, clear, clear, "Oh look a red car" clear, clear, clear, clear "oh look another red car"
LOL no.
its clear clear clear clear clear clear clear clear clear clear clear clear and so on.

p.s. when paints fade over time, its usually due to the owners neglect.
there are some cases in which the factory clear coat does fail, but you will notice this by Crows feet. or webbing embedded into the paint. this is an indication of the factory clear coat failing and nothing short of a repaint will fix it.
on the other hand, if the paint is fading and looking oxidized, the clear coat is still there, it just needs some sprucing up.
a polishing machine and polish can get this oxidation out and bring back the shine to the clear coat.
robbp, is this valid enough for you?

Lighter colors seem to do better over time compared to darker colors if left alone in the same elements. Washing, waxing, limiting environmental damage (road salts, acid rain, etc...) and keeping the vehicle out of direct sunlight (garage, car port, covered) is good for any car.
They done studies and darker car (interior and exteriors) do absorb more heat compared to lighter cars. A black/dark gray/red car can be 10-40 degrees hotter inside and out compared to a white/silver vehicle. It is probably the combo of added heat, dark colors absorbing more rays, and UV rays baking the paint more over time.
It not a big deal in ABQ; but, when I live in Phoenix with my Red Honda Accord, it was brutal with the interior temps above 130 degrees with tinted windows and a sunshade. I had to repaint it eventually. My wife's 5 year older white Accord still looked good during the same conditions.

I'm not trying to be the dick here, but you are old enough to know about variables.
that thread is FULL of variables. different factors will affect the paint. did the owners of those vehicles keep up with washes and waxes through the entire length of ownership?
most likely not. did those owners garage their vehicles? we dont know because those owners didnt include that valuable piece of information
again, most times when paint fades, its the owner not taking care of the paint.
there are cases of clear coat failure, but paint fade is the product of neglect.
This quote from that thread ILLUSTRATES my point:
i took it to a local body shop and he said it was a 2 stage paint and the paint is faded underneath the clear coat, the car is still shiny just faded shiny lol, i also called up aura corporate and they also said there is nothing they can do, because my car is out of warranty
I have a milano red 00 civic si. I also bought a milano red 09 Fit since I loved the color. Side by side you could tell the paint was somewhat faded on the civic. The civic's paint is shiny too cause it's been taken care of and garage kept. I believe you just have to take more care of red paint.

I actually saw a 1st gen red TSX on campus today. Poor guy/gal had a new back bumper that was painted and looked brand new. The rest of the car unfortunately was so dull and faded.
I can't tell what it is, but I think red in generally just fades due to the reaction from UV rays.

Why red color fades so fast, I believe it's because the red color components react by absorbing the blue ray, which in fact has a higher energy so that makes the red color molecules changes (degrades) from time to time.
Blue has shorter wave length, therefore higher energy. If you see in rainbow's color spectrum, red is in the complete opposite from blue or violet. From that, we can see that red will be the first "victim" among other visible color. Of course there are many ways to protect, one of example is to layer it with highly reflective material and UV protection. Just like what we all see in the traffic signal.

All unprotected paint fades with time, but some colors "show" it more.
Red is one of those colors where oxidation seems more evident.
All modern paints are clear coated.

so, if all cars have clear....
and the red paint fades more....
that means the owner will have to keep up with the paint more often. cleaning it and waxing it.
this means its the owners neglect if the paint fades and not honda's fault.
this is my whole point summed up.
P.s. I really dont give a FUCK about post count. you keep bringing it up like I care.

*Red paint dulls faster.
*Red paint also gets clear coat.
*Waxing often preserves the clear coat.
*Wax your car often, no matter what color.
*Wax your car really often if red.
*Obama is already in his 2nd term.
Justin is helping, he just chooses to do it with a bat rather than a feather.
Rawger, great quoted text, man. Good info!

Justin isn't saying that your pain isn't feeding he's just stating that there is a clear coat?..
in trying to prove a point that the red fades you post a thread that has no pics so that really probably doesn't help anybody...

But yeah, main takeaway point is if you own red, make sure that baby has a nice wax job done occasionally if you live in sunny places. Especially Florida.
