The Official 2009 TSX Thread **Unvelied in NY**

this pisses me off. Why doesnt Honda understand that the new age of drivers are torque hungry? Why is it so hard for them to add a turbo? Is it a marketing thing? I will wait til the launch and than I will consider selling my 07 tsx for 09 a3 3.2 fsi quattro. HOTNESS!

Looking at those new pics of Euro Accord Tourer, it somewhat resembles an 04/05 Mugen bumper with an added 04/05 Mugen lip kit. That may come over here as A-Spec/Modulo. I can't help but think, "What happened to the 2009 Honda Accord EuroR?" Of course we are never going to get that K20 engine with 220bhp, but it is shown that they are capable of producing a higher output NA K-Series. But I would love to see what's the deal with the new EuroR, it may be awaiting for the North American TypeS release to make it's debut. Also, I've always wondered since we receive the TSX from Japan, why can't we order a EuroR from the dealer, for import to this side of the world?

We've seen they can make a decent turbo engine with the K23T in the RDX, but it's also been a flop mostly because of where it's priced (~$40k).

very very disappointing and embarrassing!!! i was expecting at least 220hp for the base car and still hope for a type s model too.
i recall when the 2nd gen TL (1999-2003) came out the base model had 225 hp and then in 2001 the type S came out with 35 more hp to 260hp. so, if the new TSX will be 201hp then the type s maybe could only be 236hp or just take the 240hp from the RDX simple solution.
Acura advance?? Far from it! They are more like Acura regress.
I'm keeping my 04 TSX and running it until it has expensive problems and I'm going to sell it and get myself either a BMW 1 series, Infiniti G35x, or another car not sure yet.
Watch guys I bet you that the next gen TL will be overhyped like this new TSX and current TL owners will be disappointed. It will probably only have 290-300hp in the TL and it will be FWD again I don't think Acura would put more hp in the TL than the RL

A forum member over at VWVortex published Acura's press release for the 2009 TSX and the news for enthusiasts isn't good, but not entirely unexpected. The big non-news is that Acura will continue to use the 2.4-liter four cylinder employed in the current model, sending power to the front wheels through either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. The dimensions of the TSX have grown slightly, while two-stage dampers connect to double wishbones up front and a multilink setup out back. Inside, both the driver and front-seat passenger get power seats and upgraded leather, while a USB port for the stereo is standard equipment.

I'm looking at the 1 series also depending on how much dealers will charge

It's nice to know that our current TSX does about as much as the new TSX with a much more minimalistic interface and has a touch screen on top of that.
Why did they even bother designing a new car? They could have did a MMC and nobody would have known the difference. At any rate this pointless update seems like a colosal waste of energy. I sense that Honda has lost some smart people recently.

Is it true that the new TSX's engine will produce 201 HP according to this article except the type S.
"Displacing 2.4-liters and producing 201 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque (with manual transmission), the new in-line 4-cylinder engine produces its useable power across a much wider rpm range, while five percent more torque further strengthens the engine's pulling power at middle rpm levels."

So Glad I purchased my 08 TSX 2.5 weeks ago while I had a good selection of colors. I cant believe The 2009 models HP is 201 down from 205. This is because of the new ULEV (lower emissions rating) Did I also read that the the 2009 no longer has rear wishbone suspenion? And yes, my 08 plays MP3's.
#1898
Really? I missed it by a year. I have a 07. Damn. Acura will lose me as a future customer. I am eyeing on the Lexus IS in the future, once they make the rear leg room bigger. That HP is very disappointing so I am glad I have an 07 TSX.

2009 Tsx = B.f.d.
Nothing making this a standout in it's field to drive in brand new customer sales or compelling enough to get 1st gen owners to flock to dealers and trade up.
Bottom line: Boring!
Between the RL nightmare and TSX disappointment, Acura is really in the fastlane to nowhere!
Sure makes an owner like me proud! NOT

According to this article it may be more in HP, "Power for the base TSX is expected to come from a 2.4L i-VTEC four-cylinder — rated in the 220 to 230 horsepower range — driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic."

I guess we need to see official specs on the car. Which one is it 201 or 220? But still I may look elsewhere in a car.

The 2009 TSX is expected to appeal to current TSX owners, young professionals and other image seekers who will appreciate its innovative styling, technical allure and total performance – while also valuing the outstanding customer treatment that owners have come to enjoy at Acura dealerships.

201 or 220...its still FWD.
No one here thinks Honda will be hit financially with poor sales with the TSX, 4K units or less still justifies making the car, but doesnt apparently justify more R&D money for upgrades to keep up with even Kia.
Why in the world would any current TSX owner want to trade off their ride for a new one with less HP, less MPG, still no MP3? I think the TSX was made for a new generation of drivers that dont own one now...or owners that are uncomfortable with change...they couldnt have possibly made it us current owners.

I am with you. IS 350 has potential to improve and be similar to G37. I won't get a FWD on my next car (my own preference).

If auto manufactures adhered to a 5 pm (or even better 2.5 MPH) bumper standard, there would be a lot less damage, fewer claims, and perhaps lower insurance rates. Unforntunately, Acura is taking advantage of a Reagan-era lowering of the bumper standards to save a little money.

A lot of people are predicting doom but the current model sold w/ only ~200 hp/4 cylinder so this might as well. This does nothing for the luxury image tho ... green image maybe.

Honda/Acura is going backward, only 201hp from the NEW/IMPROVED 2.4Liter and only 300hp from the 3.7Liter V6 in the RL. it seems like honda has lost it's high-revv engine heritage.... very sad... the 3.2 in NSX makes 290hp which was built at least 10 yrs ago. 10 yrs later they make a 3.7 that only make 300hp.

What a JOKE! They decreased the HP and barely increased the tq, while adding weight. Plus, it's still FWD. HAHAHA why one would buy this over a 128i, I don't know. The only positive I can think of, although it is a big positive, is reliability. But damn, if you're only gonna own your car for ~four years, then why the fuck would you buy this? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA A FUCKING JOKE I TELL YOU! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I know that I am in the minority here, but I am happy that Honda seems to be more concerned with improving gas mileage than increasing horsepower. With premium gas quickly approaching $4 a gallon here, I would rather have better mileage than more horsepower. For those that think the engine is not powerful enough, you should remember that the Euro Accord comes with a 2.0 liter engine standard in most of the world.

1. HP is not the only measure of a car's performance. If the 09 TSX is dropping from 205 to 201 HP (just a 2% difference) and gets better midrange torque, then I'm all for it. It is also a lot more environmentally friendly, achieving ULEV standards
2. MPG has actually improved over the current model using the revised EPA estimates
08: 20 City / 28 Hwy
09: 21 City / 30 Hwy (estimate)
for an AT
3. The MP3 mention may be an oversight, but at least now you'll be able to plug in a USB drive.
And hey, we're getting paddle shifters!

No Brand Loyalty. Loyalty to the best car for my needs.
I think Honda is too stubborn for it's own sake. I've owned Honda motorcycles too.
They stick to things that they shouldn't.
Look at the RL. Still a V6? A Luxury flagship has the same engine configuration as the Lexus ES Series? Where is the V8? The V8 has been waited upon for years and years.
I love my TSX 05. It's the perfect shape. I smile every time I look at it. But Acura should move on from the status quo.
Look at Toyota. When the Camry came out with plastic looking grills a few years back and ppl hated it, Toyota changed it right away to chrome grills.
I've owned a BMW M3. BMW is stubborn as well but in a good way.
BMW will not let their M cars be turbo charged or supercharged. It HAS to be NA. And it must have some kind of clutch in it's transmission choice. And the car must lap the nurburgring circuit in a predetermined time.
Certain Honda motorcycles are known to have charging problems. But Honda is adamant about not putting a better alternator to charge the batteries. This happened again and again but Honda was firm in that they will ONLY put an alternator that will be "enough" for "regular" use.
This new car is not crap. But I am thoroughly disappointed. Honda. LISTEN TO US. LISTEN TO WHAT THE CUSTOMERS WANT.

Two arguments most of you may not have considered while commenting... and it's understandable, as this is an enthusiast forum:
1. All of us current TSX drivers are not the primary demographic for the future TSX. You've all stepped into the "luxury" brand realm, and in that realm, the consumer trend is to upgrade your vehicle whenever possible.
Value-driven customers buy Accords all their life, regardless of their financial situation. That's why you see value vehicles trying to eek their way upscale... their buyers are financially ready for more but are not inherently indulgent in their vehicles. Luxury-driven customers get into vehicles that coincide with their financial situations, which usually means upgrading.
The people on the TSX board are supposed to move up to the TL on their next purchase, not stay with the TSX. The new TSX isn't for you, it's for people who previously drove a lower-end vehicle (with less or similar hp numbers and probably less amenities). If the people on this TSX board aren't salivating over the notion of getting into the current or next-gen TL, then THAT is where Acura has failed. But as far as moving the TSX upscale to coordinate with you, our members... that wasn't Acura's idea. And apparently they know you guys pretty well, because everyone here who's claiming they'll leave the brand is talking about going to more expensive vehicles with more power and more status... Lexus IS, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4... in other words, the Acura TL.
2. As cruiserchuck pointed out... gas prices and horsepower don't mesh. But what chuck didn't point out is that the TSX is driven primarily by... women. We've had a few threads about the TSX being a chick car - I'm not saying it is, but the fact is that the demographics tell us the majority of TSX drivers are women.
For those of you who never sold cars before, the typical buying trends of each gender are, roughly, as follows (in order of importance):
Men
1. Power
2. Style
3. Amenities
Women
1. Style
2. Value
3. Amenities
In this case, value=good gas mileage, because good gas mileage=less $$ spent on gas. Now obviously Acura could improve horsepower using methods that don't totally destroy the MPG, but the fact is, if any manufacturer has to pick between adding power or maintaining MPG, and their market is both primarily women and gas price conscious, then MPG is where the focus will go. Again, I believe Acura is quite aware of what they're doing here... so just like my previous point, Acura is basically telling you, "this car isn't for you anymore. Move up or move on."

So far, all the whining I'm hearing about the new TSX is the lack of power compared to the BMW 1-series, Lexus IS, Audi A4... Keep in mind that every single one of those cars costs significantly more than a TSX. You get what you pay for. Everyone is screaming that a 30K car doesn't have RWD, or AWD, or 300HP, or LED tailights (like who gives a crap there), etc. The TSX has always been about style and value, and EVERYONE here with a Gen1 TSX purchased it knowing it wasn't the fastest thing out there, but it was the style and value that brought everyone to it. Now that same factor has offended so many...
I don't get it. I own a 2008 TSX and I love it. It has plenty of power for me. If it had 230HP, it would get shit mileage because many people drive a car with a lot of power using a lead foot (and I admit it - because it's fun). But then everyone would complain about the poor gas mileage. RWD = poor handling in bad weather. Living in the northeast, I would prefer FWD over RWD any day. I agree AWD would be better, but that comes at a premium (+2K).
The 2009 has a pretty decent bump in torque - who cares if the HP is down by 4. Until you drive it, you have no idea how it will perform. For all we know, once you get behind the wheel, you'll feel the difference and the car may handle better, be more refined, quieter in side, etc. Everyone is damning it and hasn't even seen it yet in person.
The TSX will continue to be an incredible value for the money. That's why it has been, and will continue to be, so successful.
