Is this normal for 2G TSX?

Hi guys,
Long time reader on this forum, finally decided to register.

Anyway, I love everything about my '13 TSX especially the ELS audio, the engine agressiveness, the built, fit & finish EXCEPT for the stiff steering (EPS). The more you drive faster the more it becomes stiffer to steer. Is this normal for this TSX?

I really want to keep this car for few years but now Im considering of either getting an Accord or a TL instead.

Anybody got this issue on the steering?

Thanks.

Yeah the steering is supposed to adjust depending on speed. Stiffer at higher speeds. personally i like that but i wish it would stay stiff all the time. Feels too light at lower speeds.
But the steering system in your 13 is not the same as my 10 (it was redesigned in '11). Supposedly it's better.

work out more if you're having trouble turning the steering wheel. i lift daily so i can turn my wheel with just 3 fingers. i'm gonna try to go for 2 or maybe 1 but that's a daunting task...

I heard one guy a while back went for the one finger turn. He ended up blowing out his finger and had to go to the ER. Be care with that man...

Hehehe....

I should have mentioned that it really feel stiff on normal street speed. I have complained this to the dealer and as usual they said that everything is normal.

They also let me test drive a SE version and its completely different feel, like night and day difference. SE steering feels very lively and light.

Check your tire pressure. Pump it up a bit

This makes no sense, since mechanically, they're identical. If you really feel it's a problem, make someone at the dealer drive the car (and go with him/her).

should be 33 PSI, though I have not check them in months coz there's no TPMS light indicator.

And herein may lie the problem.

TPMS was not designed to replace periodic checks. It is designed to warn of potentially catastrophic low pressure. By regulation, the sensors are not required to alert unless the psi has dropped by 25%, but you can get handling and wear issues at a 10% drop in pressure.

The recommended pressure listed on the door jamb is merely that - a recommendation - and you should adjust a few psi up (for increased handling) or a few down (for increased comfort)

TPMS warnings are useless... our ody was at 19PSI and it didn't warn us.

I run my TSX at 35 PSI. 33 was too low for me.

Well guys, you were all correct. I check my tire pressure and its 28psi for all of them, damn TPMS. After putting some air to 33, the steering feels a lot better than before. That is also probably the reason why Im getting bad milage

Well now I know one thing that Toyota is better than Honda or Acura is their TPMS indicator. My wifes Highlander I think indicator lights up on 1 or 2 psi down.

Thanks guys!

After an extremely long public comment period, NHTSA determined that the 25% requirement was the lowest that they could do and still keep the driving public safe.

TPMS sensors aren't NASA certified accurate (or they would cost several hundred dollars each) and - given the fact that many customers go to the dealer when "the light" goes off - there would be a public uprising if the sensors alerted at 1 or 2 psi low.

At a pressure significantly below 25% low, there is a real danger of catastrophic tire failure.

TPMS was never intended to replace periodic checks but was intended to keep the general population from killing themselves because they are too stupid to check the tire pressure.

So nobody on here uses the MID to check their tire pressures periodically? I'd say I check mine at least two to three times a week. Also my friend called me as she was driving and said there is a fat ass light on her car. I cracked up as it sorta does look like a big fat ass.

It never occurred to me to use it for that. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another PIA federally mandated addition designed to hasten our descent into the nanny state. Anyone that's too lazy (or stupid) to check their tire pressures no less than once a month or so deserves whatever happens next.

Yes the deserve to have their tires blow out on the freeway, possbly causing an accident that kills themselves, kills or injures others or at the very least delays other motorists. Not even mentioning the millions of gallons of gasoline needlessly wasted by reduced fuel economy.

Or we could design the machine to account for the fact that it is operated by non professional human beings who tend not to check tire pressures.

Would the TPS light come on if you have uneven tire pressures? I know my 09 Maxima did that even when filled with at least 33psi and would come on if psi drops below 32psi.

Btw, this thread is now abou tires.

no the tpms doesn't come on if one of tires has different psi than your others. it'll give the reading on the MID and tell you the pressure of each one but it's up to you to check it and make sure it's the same with every other tire.

Btw, this thread is now abou tires.
By law, the light comes on when ANY of the tires fall below the 75% threshold. It is not intended to alert on small variances.

Now, as far as when the sensors alert, much depends on how the manufacturers implement the requirement, how sensitive the sensors are and where the threshold is set.

Most sensors are dumb devices. When a certain limit is reached the sensor alerts. Many people are using RDX sensors - are they set to the same thresholds?

Before you use it for that purpose, you might want to check it using a quality pressure gauge.

The Government needs to legislate for the stupidest amongst us - but - how many here on the board regularly check the pressure in their tires?

Here is a poll I posted a few years ago on the BMW board.

It must be noted that BMWs use a slightly different system. You adjust the pressure as required and then "reset" the system with your newly set pressures. Lose 25% of that and the system alerts.

By the way when I put some air on the tires, I set them all to 33 psi using my manual gauge, but when I start the car and checked the MID tire pressure, two of the tires are 31psi and the other two are 32psi, what the H!?

Like I said in a previous post, the sensors aren't that accurate since they don't need to be. If your gauge was accurate, then just remember that your MID reads one to two psi low.

Recheck your tires just to make sure but a psi or so doesn't make much difference.

Yeah i've found the TPMS is pretty inaccurate. Always check with a guage to be sure.
