Gas door help

Somehow after 7 years, my gas door separated from the black plastic.

black plastic also isnt secured to car

1) anyone know how door secures to plastic swing out?

2) do I need to purchase the swing out? Is there a part number for it? My door is fine.

can what I have be repaired? Or needs replaced?

thanks

pics attached. Appreciate any help.

The metal lid slides onto the plastic locking hinge assemble. Your pix shows a broken bit on the plastic hinge, that maybe the reason for separation. You will need to order part # 74480-TL4-G10 that is the inner plastic hinge assemble. Your metal lid is reused.

Did that failure happened during buffing the car? You have to be gentle with that area when polishing the car with a buffer.

No sir. Was getting gas, finished, and went to pay inside. Older (homeless maybe), gentleman in a walker, walked into the car, and the body color door fell into the floor, and this piece came off.

Thank you kindly. I played around with it a bit, looks like the black plastic part (with the metal clip), slides back into where it goes, without problem. Almost like "nothing really holds it in," but it is now functioning properly.

Are you saying to order the new part (thank you for the number), due to the clip that holds THAT plastic part to the body colored door? Possibility I can super glue it?

I have no problem ordering the black plastic piece, if that main piece is broken somehow, but it seems to function and lock in place.

Hope I am wording it correctly.

I guess what I am saying is, looking at the plastic black piece, I put it back in the car, and it seems to function ok. If it functions ok, should I let it be, and not order another one? Appreciate it

As long as its secure and wont fly off in the wind while driving. Then all should be good. If you are able to slide the lid off with ease replace the plastic.

ok I will try it tomorrow, and see. If it slides off (the lid), then will order the plastic.

Just to point out, the "black metal piece" that is the hinge... it just seems to "slot in" and not VERY well secured?

Enough reason to replace the hinge assemble, it should be secure! If you loose the lid, it's additional cost along with painting.

Some parts of raised locking tabs on the plastic hinge got broken or sheared off. There is no bolts or clips that holds it in place. It just slides on locks into place.

I hadn't realized that you stole my car. I had to go out to the garage to make sure it was still there.
