Front Brake Pad Replacement

Looks like after 8k my front brakes are gone! so I'm possibly looking to goto the stealer-ship and getting it done....so my options are Acura or Honda

I called Acura and they quoted $306 CAD for front pads, labour and machining the rotors.

I called Honda and they quoted $108 CAD labour + cost of front pads ($80 CAD according to Acura parts)

I guess prior to my tsx I would just purchase the parts and have my mechanic do it but kinda hesitant cuz it being a new car.

Anybody have similar experiences getting this work done at the stealer-ship?

Did they tell you specifically what the issue was?

There is a TSB for this: check the sticky in "Problems and Fixes". Here's a link to the tsb: http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/SB/B09-054.pdf

Damn that's expensive. You could replace them yourself with brand new rotors for a fraction of that.

Are you certain it's your front? I thought the same, but when I took my car to get repaired it was the rear brakes causing the problem. The front had abnormal wear, but the rear was roughly 80% gone, warped rotors to boot. I called Acura about the TSB and got the big middle finger, they weren't honoring squat. I took my car elsewhere and plan to file for partial re-imbursement through this link

like V6 guy said, there's a TSB out for this. The OE pads were wearing out too quickly, so they've been replaced by an updated part from Acura that has a totally different part number. Take your car in and they should know about it.

Mine (Front brakes) were squealing like crazy at less than 4000 miles. Took them apart myself and cleaned etc, twice, and squealing came back within a few miles. I ended up purchasing the updated part number and replacing the pads myself, and it's quiet now... THe new pads have a different compound as well as a set of V-springs to keep vibrations downs. It worked so far from me.

No letter - It's only a TSB. It would apply only if the customer complaints, and if the stealer tech is able to diagnose the problem. It was cheaper overall for me to pay for the new pads myself than to go to my local stealer and fight with them to have the work done under warranty (local dealer thinks that any noise coming from the car is normal...) and I did not want to take time off work, hassle etc and drive across town to the another dealer and deal with them .

There is a letter. I have it right in my hand titled "Honda Rear Brake Pad Settlement." My car just hit 9k miles and its squeeking. Weird thing is that i just had my oil changed and they checked all 4 and said they are all at 90% or more remaining......I dont trust Acura service dept.

To the OP, take it to the dealer and have them replace the front pads under warranty, there is no way front pads can wear out in 8K, you may have a stuck caliper.

My local Acura dealer replace my front pads for free under warranty at 52K km mark or 33K miles, the new redesigned pads is also quieter.

I just had my rear brakes replaced after 32k miles at a local shop. I bought the oem pads myself to make sure they were the updated ones (43022-TA0-A40). The mechanic told me my front pads had a good amount left. Will see how the new brakes are after a few days.

oh i actually found out that my warranty covers my rear.. im not actually sure if its my rear or fronts that are squeeking i shud probly check, cuz my rear breaks are covered for the next 3 years to be replaced.. so thats why i was thinking i'd just let ignore it until it is a constant squeek and then fix it when i've had enough, that way hopefully i can get my calipers replaced along with it under warranty. sounds like a decent plan?

After 22k miles fronts are pulsating after heavy breaking. Factory brakes really suck.

Replacing pads and rotors

Front Power Slot Power Alley Rotors / Hawk HPS Pads
Rear Centric Premium Rotor / Hawk HPS Pads

Total cost $453 shipped.

Planning to submit rear pads for reimbursement form settlement.

Mine was replaced at 32K km back in Aug 2009. Dealer charged C$250 for it. After the letter came out in Jan 2010, dealer replaced both front and rear redesigned pads under warranty in May 2010 @53K km. I submitted the receipt for the Aug 2009 repair (with old style pads) and received C$125 refund.
