You can check out Harbor Freight for a cheaper DA polisher. As with anything you buy there, you may or may not have good luck. I bought pads there and they literally disintegrated.

I'm sure there are deals to be had on the 7424. As an example, Autogeek has the polisher with 5.5" pads and some other free stuff thrown in for $169. You can also score free samples of stuff when you spend over $95. They also have specials from time to time with free shipping. Detailers Domain is another place to look.

That's quite a bit of gear to get ya going for less than $200.

I heard harbor freight actually has a decent DA that's around 60 bucks.. My buddy has one and has tried to kill it but he can't lol.. Only complaint he had is that the pads they sell for it suck... And pads built for the porter DA's are too small.. So he cut the Velcro on the attachment wheel to fit the better pads..

Did you end up wet sanding it after and polishing it out? How well do they blend in?

Yeah I did, it came out quite nice. The result isn't totally perfect but it's 1000x better than it was, I bet nobody could tell though if they didn't know what it looked like before. The m105 is what really made it look nice. Also since my bumper was a repaint which was done by a dumbass, it used to be dull and have some orange peel..... It's like glass now. I'll take a pic.

I bought the 3M defender spray, still have to put that on so it won't get fucked up again.

Different topic, I noticed a tiny little scratch on my steering wheel and its bugging me... anyone know of a nice wheel cover or something? Wouldn't mind having a little thicker wheel also.
i've decided I really need to start washing my own damn car, what washing stuff do you guys suggest? All i really have is the detailing and polishing stuff, and a ton of microfibers.

Thanks iCrap. How many hours did you wait after you touched up the paint, before taking the car out for a drive or begin wetsanding? I'll probably do the wet sanding and polishing afterwards too. Ugh I expect this to take forever too. And wtf there's a spray on protectant from 3M? Does it really work?

About soap... anything with a good amount of suds should be fine really. Car soaps can only be so good. I'm using Meguiar's Gold Class.

For washing the paint, you'll need 2 5 gallon buckets, at least 1 grit guard, a microfiber washmitt, and microfiber towels for drying.

For washing the wheels... this part isn't as "defined" or "standardized". Some people use wheel woolies, wheel brushes, etc. to get the wheels real clean. This shit is expensive though! So I just use another microfiber washmitt and painfully work each wheel (I don't even bother getting the entire 9.5" wide barrel of my VMRs. Way too much work IMO).

Depending on how much you are going to spend, found some pretty good coupons for advance auto parts. Spend around $100 and you can get whatever you pick for about 60 bucks which is pretty legiiit. Thinking of just buying the M105/205 (both 32oz), clay kit, quick detailer and collinite wax from there.

If the touched up spots aren't smooth with the rest of the paint, then it should probably be wet sanded down (assuming you care). Wet sanding will leave scratches in the paint, so you should then proceed to polishing.

If the spots are smooth, then you won't need to sand it down any further.

I know right!

For wash mitts, I use Meguiar's microfiber wash mitt. It's the only one I've ever used, so I can't really compare. But, I like it, if that helps lol. Don't skip out on the grit guard though. Definitely a required item if you care about not putting scratches on your paint.

Waited like an hour, that touchup paint dries really quick though. Yea there is a 3M spray... It's basically like a spray on clear bra type thing. I haven't put it on yet though so I don't know if it actually works. It was like 30 bucks at autozone.

I think i have some megs gold soap actually, got the buckets also. Just need to get a washmit then and grit gaurd. are the autozone ones decent?

Sorry not sure, I live in Canada so I don't think autozone exists here I mean if the design of the openings look a lot like the official grit guard ones, then it'll probably work just as good. The only other factor to consider is maybe how strong of a plastic the autozone ones are. If you can't bend the plastic grid by moving your hand back and forth on top of it, then it should be fine. I say that because if the plastic isn't strong, it might break when you use the guard. There is no issue with the official grit guard in this area.

BTW, the grit guards only fit 5 gallon buckets. It's not supposed to be snug when you put it inside the bucket, but there should be very minimal room for movement when you clean your mitt by rubbing it onto the guard back and forth. You'll be amazed at how well this simple item actually removes crap from your mitt.

Meguiar's mf wash mitt is the only one I've used. It's pretty good IMO, but I have nothing to compare against

Which MFTs do use? Are they good at soaking up the water? A tip for not scratching your car while drying via MFT is to rip out the tags.

Right now I'm using a single Meguiar's Water Magnet for the entire car. The thing is pretty awesome at first... but then after maybe doing the entire hood and front bumper, it starts to streak and potentially leave watermarks if you don't ring out the cloth. After ringing out the cloth, it's good for maybe 1 panel until you need to ring it out again... and repeat. Kinda annoying. I'm a noob so I don't even know if this really is a good cloth or not (it has amazing reviews on Amazon but I never researched from a legit place like autogeek beforehand). I'll need at least 1 more of these or even try a different cloth altogether.

EDIT: I realize there's a technique to drying that I haven't tried. So you should remove the spray from your hose and sheet the car with the running water. It should pull off a lot of the water that was sitting on the paint. Then use the MFT to blot the remaining spots of water. I definitely need to give this method a try next time.. I take like a good 3 hours to wash/dry the whole car, when this should really take no more than an hour.... FML.

I do have a separate, milder cloth for buffing off wax. I think it was called the cookie monster lmao... it's big and blue, and it's really really soft.

I read the Meguiar's Supreme Shine MFTs (I assume you have these) are sort of a mix between the two; you can use them to dry, and to remove wax. If you want a towel strictly for drying, you should try out the water magnet.

Let's talk frozen pizza. In college I ate Totinos. I quickly outgrew that garbage and now I only eat Red Baron.
