Warped front brake rotors ?

Anyone have problems with warped rotors. I have a 2003 TL-S with 30k miles and the steering wheel shakes when I apply the brakes at 60 MPH and above. The tires have already been balanced and I have after market 18x 8 wheels . What the heck are Acura rotors succeptable to warping? Car is not driven hard

The OE rotors are well known for their easy warp tendancies
Just tightening the wheel lugs funny or over torque them when your tires were put on, or heat them up and then park instead of driving to cool them back down gently- all those will do it in a hurry
Many TLs ready for front pads at 30k and resurface the rotors- which keeps junk rotors now made even thinner! Buy new rotors and great pads- keep car from getting shorter

Most people upgrade to rotora- from Excelerate or RacingBrake from MrHeelToe

Both quality products- what you get depends on your actual driving style and needs

The car being nose heavy and the quality of the factory rotors would lead to this premature problem. I replaced mine at 35K and used a Japan made alternative (forgot the brand) lasted until I sold the car.

its totally normal for our type cars- being front wheel drive- that 70 percent of the braking toque/force is in the fronts- especially with weight transfer under load- that wears front pads and rotors more quickly than the rear brakes.

Buy quality or you will likely do the job again soon-
or bring the car home 2 feet shorter one day

Thanks for all of the info. It looks like Rotora with Axxis pads will be the best option?

I would figure out why the ones you have are warped before I spent $$ on other stuff. If the brakes really aren't used hard they shouldn't warp.
If you used the brakes down a very long, steep hill and then sat stopped at the end (or something similar), that might do it; or the lug nuts might have been over-torqued, or there's rust between the discs and the hub, or...
Good Luck.

Well since the car is not driven hard, it must be that the lugs got over tightened.

the OE rotors are the warp masters- failure to cool brakes properly all the time will tweak them- or the ever popular uneven overtorque or as said above- come down a long hill riding the brakes or in traffic a lot ,instead of using them in increments- will glaze the pads, and if you dont drive them to cool off- you come to a stop with hot brakes on-....not good

Axxis pads- did you read anything I mentioned or do a search in here?
Those are the dust and noise masters

If RacingBrake rotors- Hawk pads or RBs new pad matched to their rotors
If rotora- rotora pads- matched to their rotors- good stuff

Using the brakes easy all the time leads to glaze from drag-overheat
Use them harder in segments to reduce speed and they work better and last longer
see heeltoe tech articles on brakes and how they work

I have the same problem

I also have a 2003 type s that I bought with 30000 miles about a year ago. After about one week I had the same problem you did at high speeds. I read on this site about the same problem. I guess at about 7000 miles on new brakes the warp and need to be resurfaced. I read that the cause is from the extreme heat fromt he engine. The only fix that I know of is to upgrade to brembow brakes. I wish I had better news for you.

cg--- Someone is feeding you crap!

Engine heat is FAR less than the heat of dragging the brakes in traffic or hard use
Glaze on rotors and pads can be removed with an agreesive braking procedure, you dont turn the rotors because of it!
do some reading here!!!

Fixing the real problem is key- whether thats better parts or driving style change

Even brembo are subject to warping- any metal is when abused!!

If you normally are hard on brakes see RacingBrake from MrHeelToe- superior metal makes them last!

Ordered new rotors and pads

I ordered the Racing Brake slotted rotors and Racing Brake pads (pads they just developed) from heel Toe and they should arrive in a week. They seem kind of expensive but given the quality of the rotors it should be worth it I hope.

Nice looking rotors, but as a certain Eddie would once have said, the prices are "INSANE".

RacingBrake rotors do more than just look nice, they have advanced curved inner cooling vanes and special alloy construction- outwit outlast outplay should be their tag line
I abuse mine all the time and they dont complain
If you look around- cheap rotors are 40$ Beck Arnley are $65 RacingBrake is about $100 each and the pads are about the same- so for just over 300 you get insane good stopping power- even my wife notices, and has used heavily when not looking far enough ahead on the freeway- this is the woman who brought our last car home 2 feet shorter

Every owner of them on here will tell you the same thing- rock and roll brakes like no other!
