Trouble /w Programming Homelink Garage Opener

I tried to get my garage homelink feature to work, but it doesn't seem to work.

Here is what im doing: (as stated in manual)

1. unplug garage
2. hold down desired button on the car, and hold down the garage opener at the same time
3. wait until the red light flashes rapidly to confirm code has been read

if this doesn't work

1. unplug garage
2. hold down desired button on the car, and hold down the garage opener at the same time push the garage opener a few times for the homelink to "read" the codes
3. wait until the red light flashes rapidly to confirm code has been read

And if this doesn't work then you garage door has a "rolling code" and you have to push the "train" button, and then go back, and then hold down your homelink until red-flashing to confirm it has been trained + learned the pattern.

Any1 have any tips? same problem? no problems?

No problems whatsoever. I set it the day I got my car, and hasn't given me any trouble.

Did this problem just happen, or is this the first time you're programming it with your garage?

this is my first time trying to use it, I am the 2nd owner on the car, and I followed the instructions to clear the code (hold 3 of the homelink buttons down)

Interesting. If you're following the instructions and it still doesn't work, then your garage door opener most likely has a rolling code feature.

How old is the garage door opener?

I'm now having same problem.. but i've programmed twice with rolling code garage motors. Unfortunately, this new one has code but no "Train" button. You should check ur motor to see if there is a train button somewhere underneath the covers.

Not all garage door opener are homelink compatible. I got this information from the Honda dealer where I got my Ody. Good thing our garage door is compatible. I just followed the same instruction and it worked for me. Try to wait a little longer before releasing the buttons (on both the remote opener and homelink). It takes a while before the red light from the homelink blinks. BTW, I didn't even have to unplug the garage opener.

try the rolling code method, if not contact the opener manufacturer with the model # and see if its homelink compatible. some times it takes a try or 2 with the rolling code

You need to hold the first and third buttons for about 7-8 seconds or until the red light flashes rapidly to clear the homelink.

What if you don't want to clear the homelink cuz you have something installed on it already !! Like I got another garage programmed to it, but I don't wanna lose that one cuz I can't find remote.

i had trouble with mine at first as well... try calling the 800 number in the manual. it's just a recording, but it gives additional instructions / secrets for specific openers. i had mine working immediately after the call.

You can program over the previous setting. For instance, if you don't want to lose, say, button 1, but you want to reprogram button 2 which already has a setting programmed. Just perform the normal programming procedure and it will automatically replace the old setting.

I still have my 3rd button programmed to open the garage door of my Honda Dealer. My Ody was inside the showroom when I got it so they have to program it to open the door.

you do realize that you have to push the learn button on the opener for the homelink to learn it right?

learn button?, my garage opener has only one button, or do you mean the unit?
is the learn button the same as the train button?

If it's still not working try going to this web site:

http://www.homelink.com/home/home.tml

I couldn't get mine to work either until I followed the instructions her for training.

i tried all of the above and got nothing. i tried each method on each button. i am second owner. i even bought another homelink/map light assembly. neither one work. the only flaw i can think of is that i park in the garage when i try it. should i park outside and try it? nothing works. ive had 3 different cars homelink on this garage. so im pretty sure this one should work. somebody help! any tricks or anything? im going to call the 800 number definitely. idk what else to do.

You have to push the button on the motor unit of the opener, Training button, remove the cover if needed, there's a button on it somewhere, do that first then you program the buttom on the home link unit in the car.
