Torque Converter Lock Up System

I recently had my check engine light go on in my 2003 3.2TL so I took it in to have it checked out by my mechanic. The diagnosis came back as an error code 740- in the transmission for torque converter lock up system. They checked the lock up solonoid and everything looked okay so they cleared the code. Has anyone ever had any issues with their torque converter? I have approx 90k miles on this tranny. Had it replaced in 2006 after it blew out due to a mistake made by the dealer I serviced it at. But any way should I be concerned? The car seems to be driving and shifting just fine.

drain a small sample and ck the drain plug- it will have crud and metal on it--its magnetic for a reason

if the clutches are failing it will clog the torque convertor outlet screens

Usually once you have a tq converter code its too late and a trans rebuild is in the bear future. Has the light come back on after them clearing the code?

my car had given no issues, was driving perfectly fine, then all of the sudden if I pressed down on the gas, the car would speed up a tiny bit, and then stop and just the rev would increase without the car increasing speed. I pulled over, shutoff the car and waited a few minutes and tried again. It drove, fine for a few miles but then went out for good. To the point where the car would not go anywhere. I had it towed home, where I have moved it once by putting it in drive, and the car went on it's own the 10 feet I needed it too. I checked the code, and I got the same code p740 - torque converter clutch malfunction. My car has 165k miles and I am going to fix it. I am went to Howard transmissions website, they sell clutch converters (reman) as well as transmissions. Am I going to need both? or just the transmission? or can I get away just by getting a clutch converter?

yeah that's what I thought. It sucks big time, I had bought a a 350Z two days earlier as a summer car thinking my TL was running strong and would last a few winters or so. This will be the 4th transmission in this car I think....

WoW That Sucks!
Im running my 2nd Tranny Still @ 179K, Replaced 1st Tranny around 115-120K I forgotten Exactly When but I remember having made my First Timing Belt Service just Before my Tranny went Caput! Sucks Nuts.

My 2nd Tranny was Rebuilt by a Private Shop, Still Shift Smooth as the Day I got It Back!!
I Just Hope the Clutch Packs the shop Installed are a Lil´Bit More Stronger to last More than the OEMs.

what happens is: the clutch disc material comes off and clogs the torque convertor- so it cant pump any fluid to make the trans operate

requires trans rebuild, and new or rebuilt tc to fix
Sorry, cant just pop in a t/c and be fixed
