solenoid starter gone ?

Yesterday my car acted on me for the first time i own it (since 2007).
i stopped somewhere , when i got back in , all i hear is ONE click when i turn the switch.
Called my repair shop he told me your starter probably gone. Keep trying it will start on the 30th time and it did.

So do i need to replace the whole starter ? is that just a solenoid ?
or is this starter one part deal ?

thanks D

Rebuild or Get a New One!
Are you sure you dont have a Weak Battery or Worn Cables?

You remove the starter without removing the battery but it will be a PITA to move arpund it... Just make sure to unplug the positive side and cover it with something so it will not short with any metal.

The safe and easy Method is with batt out.

If you disconnect the antenna from the back of the radio it will accept the code. You really should for safety disconnect the battery. Plus it will make he job much easier not having the battery to work over.

and how do i get to the back of the radio to pull the antenna out ?

last time this happen , it didnt accept the codes.
After the car came back from the dealer for the airbag recall , it did accept the code. no idea why....

i can maybe connect the battery with the jump cable and just put it on the side ...?

just replaced it, all went well.
i didnt disconnect the battery or removed.
honestly i dont see why removing the battery will make this work any easier.
disconnecting is a different story. but i kept the plus wire away and it was fine.
not recommending it , but i kept my radio working

i wouldn't say it was a fun job , but if anything i felt the radiator fan was the problem. i didnt have enough clearance between the fan to the lower bolt. Removing the battery would be probably nice but not a big improvement

Is my starter gone?

2 weeks back I just got a click when I tried starting the car. I tried it again and it caught immediately. This was the 2nd time that happened. Yesterday I tried starting and I just got a click and it started the 2nd time I tried albeit with a little more effort.

Should I just bite the bullet and replace the starter so I don't get stranded somewhere?

Sounds like the same issue I had .

Cost me $130 as a DIY job.
My garage asked $270 for it .

Not bad either way I think .
Up to you .

Just be careful not to get stuck somewhere
Then u need to add tow truck to the bill
