shake in steering wheel

I have a shake in the steering wheel when braking at high speeds. Have had the rotors and brakes changed as well as high speed balancing. Can a front end issue be the cause? I have been told that I need to change the lower tie-rod.. If anyone has some input, it would be appreciated.....

Your rotors are warped. Or your calipers are sticking

How long were the new rotors on? and what kind?

May be a case of them warping again if they're OEM

yea, oh well I'll just get some in a month and a half when i'm done paying for my rims. Working for acura and having a payroll deduct option when buying things rocks. I'm sure the tech will let me know if they're warped. I know my pads are getting low so I hope its just those because the vibration is really faint and at varying speeds.

i had that issue last year... rear rotors were warped, got some used rotora cross-drilled/slotted rotors and braking is as smooth as a pair of some TIG O'L BITTIES

Mack,
I have the same problem too and I afraid it'snot rotors problem, because sometime it works like a charm (in all speed range) sometime it shakes like hell, even with a little brake. I got the upper/lower balljoints replaced and so the socks and resurfaced rotors.
Anybody have a better ideals please let me know too. Thx.

I have the same problem as you but one of my rear rotors have ridges on it and was told they needed to be replaced so I just placed an order for front and rears on eBay and they are located in my area so I am going to pick them up for $200 CDN cash for fronts and rears plus low break dust pads.

Going to change them out and see if it still shakes or studders.

A) wheels need to be balanced due to:
i. lose of a weight on wheel
ii. slight bend somewhere

B) rotors are warped.

c) calipers are sticky

D) balljoints or something around there

E) racingbrake rotor ftw

If you changed the rotors already i would look at the front hubs, i know the accords have hub issues that sometimes simulate the feel of a warped rotor. But at the same time even though they were just replaced it always could be a bad rotor.

Rotors.

Also make sure your wheels are torqued properly. Over torqued wheels will do it too.

Kris, when you said "torqued" did you mean those 5 screws/bolts of the wheel?

Yes the lugnuts. If tightened too much it can cause the rotor to warp. 80 LB/FT

85 is fine. Also make sure you torque in the correct pattern.

Seriously-how could it warp anything? The rotor is a flat piece of metal sandwiched between two other pieces of flat metal (hub, wheel). Long as you start and snug the lugs in the proper sequence and then torque- even if they are a little tighter than spec how could it warp anything? Im not trying to call you out Kris, just curious.

The wheels and hub also help to dissipate the heat generated by braking. If the heat transfer isn't uniform it can possibly lead to warping of the rotors. Make sure the hub and back of the wheel are clean, rust free and flat. Uniform torque applied to each lug helps to ensure this. Also tighten them in stages rather than applying full torque to each nut individually.
