Removing compressor/clutch

Anyone got a guide on how/what you need to remove the AC clutch and compressor? I found out that my clutch is broken and need to remove it by preferable keeping the compressor intact.

By a HELM guide. If you are going to do that, might as well purchase it, man. Did you search the DIYs Yet?

If you remove the compressor you will have to evac the system. I dont think you can replace just the clutch with it in the car?? Take it some where and have them evac the system. Then bring it home, disconnect the lines remove the belt then remove the 4 bolts that hold the compressor in place and remove it and work on it on a bench. (i dont remember if the compressor comes out the top or bottom off the top of my head though)

I think you can order it electronically (not cerain of format, but i think on a cd), but you may find, like many, that having a book there when turning the wrenches is much more handy.

requires removal of freon from sysytem as fsttyms said, then pull the compressor assembly out of the car. Next comes the tricky part-
you dont really think they made these so just anyone can play with them do you?
It going to be faster, safer, and way easier--- to get a replacement ac compressor aftermarket (kragens-azone-) than try to do the precision fit on the repair.
In the shop- I have never rebuilt ac compressor- its too easy to drop in a new one and not worry about possible shrapnel running around inside- which you dont find until the bad bearing or shaft is found later....

Exception: If you are well versed in motorcycle clutches- this may be a whole new career for you!!

Kinghost, did you ever get the clutch replaced - or did you go for the whole compressor? My A/C pulley is bent (no kidding) but the compressor / clutch assembly works fine.
The person I bought the car from dealt with the pulley by putting on a belt that is not the correct width
Has anyone here ever replaced just the clutch ass'y?
I found a great DIY for the clutch on google, but it was for a Jag

Worst case i'll replace the entire compressor with the used one I just purchased from ebay for $45, then get the system recharged. The same used part here in PDX was $80 and money is tight during the holidays. Hell, i'd forgo the A/C except for the defrost action. The 4 days a year it breaks 90 doesn't really bother me (now summertime in Arizona or SE Asia - that's where A/C is life or death!)

You will have to remove the compressor to change it. And like stated before you need to bring it somewhere to evacuate the system properly. Then once its emptied then you remove the whole compressor and swap the parts on the work bench.
