It's normal for the fans to run for a while after you turn the car off if it is too hot. Don't worry about it

If it's just a once in a while thing, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

a few minutes is ok- its temp controlled by a sensor on radiator bottem

When you shut the engine off, there is an instant rise in temp- the fan comes on to take care of

If you are talking 10-15 minutes- then you need to look at the sendor unit- passenger side lower corner of radiator- cheap AND simple to replace, and seems to be a lot of them dieing recently
Fan that runs more than 15 minutes will kill the battery and does indicate some type of problem
Check the radiator cap seal carefully

Thanx 01tl4tl...reserve tank was just about empty...filled this morning...been driving around, engine off and on...hasn't happened again, yet...will remember about that sensor locale and see what happens...

If the reserve tank was empty - the engine sucked the coolant from it- likely there is a leak in the system-
AND
check the resivor cap- IS the rubber tube attached to the inside of the cap, and sits down in the coolant with the cap on normal?
Without that tube in place, the recovery system does not work- that may be all thats wrong

Inspect the cap seal, look on the radiator edges for coolant showing at seam break, or in front of rad-look for rock hit

Parts store will loan you (refundable deposit) the pressure tool for testing the cap and the system
You pump up the pressure to simulate running conditions, and the leak shows as coolant spray from a pinhole

Check that rubber tube inside the res cap- mine came off when changing coolant... is how I know about it~

NOTE Dont FILL the res bottle past the full COLD mark
The hot fluid at shutdown expands and gets pushed into the res bottle- when engine cools the action reverses and coolant returns to the radiator.

There has to be correct storage capacity for the expected rise- ~

kapt
check your owner book for the burping procedure- its a series of specific revs and times and operations of the fan and the cap on or off and....took 20 minutes in the driveway on my 01TL, but it was done right and done once!
Make sure the heater is on full hot temp select so its ~mini-radiator~ is open-
'heater core' if you want technical name-
the heater core is working part of the flow of coolant when open and gives up its air bubbles in the process
